Taiwan is based as fuck

Taiwan is based as fuck.

>Free market economy
>Democratic

>Official name is Republic of China, due to the fact that they're the original Chinese government

And now we're going to open up relations with them.

So it's the second Hong Kong?

they're the Ukraine of east asia, desu.

>Free market economy

Yeah, but unfortunately, they suffer from SEVERE wage stagnation and low economic growth compared to the other "Asian tiger" economies.

Wages have actually decreased over the past 15-20 years when you take inflation into account. Combine this with a skyrocketing housing market, and it's no wonder that many young Taiwanese are looking for opportunities abroad (including China).

>Official name is Republic of China, due to the fact that they're the original Chinese government
Most Taiwanese don't want to be a part of China. Many consider their country Taiwan. But if the Taiwanese government declared independence as the Republic of Taiwan, they would risk, at the very least, economic blockades, if not military intervention by China. So, they've remained the RoC, and until the current president, have explicitly said they agree with the "One China" policy.

The Chinese tourists have stopped going to Taiwan for vacation, and all the small business people whose livelihoods depended on shitty backwards Chinese tourists are rioting and begging for President Tsai to go back to the "One China" doctrine.

It's funny as hell, I'd link the articles but a quick google search should give you the links you need.

It's a pretty shitty situation for her to be in. She has to walk the tightrope for at least another 3 years.

Fuck, I really do hope. More Americans should care about Taiwan, I've lived in both countries [China and Taiwan] and let me vouch, as an American from Dixie, this place is beautiful.

Ok, the companies that purely catered to Mainlanders are hurting, but the business who have catered to international audiences are not. Tourism from China may have dropped, but it has risen from other parts of the world.

>mfw moving to Taiwan in 6 months
>mfw job assured
>mfw house assured
>mfw never go back to the w*stern hemisphere
>mfw the gods didn't forget me

The single reason why Americans "care" about Taiwan, is geopolitics. If Taiwanese weren't sperging out online about China, they would just be another ching-chong dog eating subhuman yellow cockroach island you wouldn't care about, at least going by /pol's standards. And I've been to Taiwan as well. Besides the scooters everywhere, the 80's styled dillapidated buildings, and general lack of anything interesting, it was pretty bland. Japan and Korea were far better.

>mfw I had no idea
>we're going to cuck communist china and put based Taiwan back in power
you there chinamen

get ready

You're a fucking retard who spurts out disinformation about industries you have no idea in, anything you say will be taken with a grain of salt you stupid fucking useful idiot shill.

>Chinamen: B-b-but you owe us American pig!

*teleports in their sea*
*unsheathes blockade*

>"heh money isn't everything kid"

Trump speaking to Taiwan = good. Gotta love the media.

Not really, look up Taiwan's history.

They were never really considered part of the Chinese mainland dynasty.

Taiwan was founded by Rebel Chinese Pirates, then eventually those pirate's descendants tried to kiss up to China but the person they backed lost the Dynasty Wars, and then Europeans came and fucked everybody up, and then Taiwan was ruled by Europeans for a while before Japan stepped in and ruled Taiwan.

The Nationalists had not fled to Taiwan at that point in time so the people living on Taiwan could attain Japanese citizenship since Taiwan was considered part of Taiwan for that period of time.

America made Japan give Taiwan to the fleeing Nationalists.

Mao has no right to Taiwan and neither do his Communist successors.

Japan ruled Taiwan longer than Mao's lifespan.

Reddit /r/politics is having a mental breakdown

I always knew reddit was a commie shithole

Bland but still takes the cake for comfiest country in the world imo.

That's only because we turned our back on then out of fear of China.

They were doing very well before we allowed China to bully them around and dictate their policies.
They still have one of the best education systems in the word and have very capable professionals, how many countries with absolutely no natural resources whatsoever make it this far,
16th largest economy in the world.

There has a relation with them since forever, Obama sold them almost 2 billion worth of weapons, it's just Jimmy Carter who was a massive faggot and stopped "official" communications. About time we get rid of this stupid beta policy.

Nah, everything I've said in this thread has been completely truthful as far as I can tell. That's more than /pol deserves, desu.

Taiwan gets pretty fucked up sometimes; earlier this year some guy beheaded a little girl in broad daylight in front of her mother. Look it up if you want. Taiwan is generally a nice country, but it does have its share of fucked up problems.

nigga, you've never heard of the Qing Dynasty?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiwan_under_Qing_rule

>In 1887, the Qing upgraded the island's administration from Taiwan Prefecture of Fujian to Fujian-Taiwan-Province (福建臺灣省), the twentieth in the empire, with its capital at Taipei. This was accompanied by a modernization drive that included building China's first railroad.

>based
>democratic
Neo-con as fuck in this thread. Fight your own wars, rice niggers.

>Korea
>good in any way

kill yourself

So I guess you don't actually know what the term "useful idiot" means, it basically grants you the ability to be subversive without you actually knowing that you're being it. If you're unintentionally misleading people, you're still misleading people: Taiwan's hospitality field is not failing, the companies that revolve strictly around Mainlanders are going to have to evolve, but that says nothing about how the tourism industry is EXPANDING from other parts of the world, and EXPANDING in total numbers of tourist.

Wow, you visited Taiwan. You're like a girl who visits Europe, a country a day, and thinks they're "cultured". Just because you read sparse articles does not allow you to have an authoritative opinion on Asia, or Taiwan. Kindly, fuck off.

You disgusting nigger, I was referring to North Korea.

You didn't think I was talking about plastic surgery kimchi gookville, did you?

that fucking kike hasn't been anywhere. he's a storyteller.

these fuckers infest threads and post complete bullshit. no one believes them. they're so obvious.

You're a self-stated American redneck from "dixie" who is sucking the Taiwanese cock really hard defending them. I'm just stating simple truths here. Also, almost everything you just said applies to yourself as well, since you're obviously a white expat. Are you Taiwanese? No? Fuck off.

This is what happens when morons confuse geopolitics for real life. They start sucking off shitholes like Philippines, Vietnam, India etc. just to spite China which I find hilarious.

There's a difference between me and you. I've lived in Asia for two years, knew of this story before it broke, have read 莊子 in its original text. I am the authority, you are the useful idiot.

>Current regimes maintain the claims of long past monarchies
So you be sayin the UK has a right to French clay?

>I've lived there for 2 years.
>I must be an expert
No user you're the useful idiot

You haven't taken the two years into context, using the other things I've mentioned. It's easy to frame something like I'm some English teacher who jerks off everyday versus someone who understands the intricacies of what surrounds me.

America

He's right in some ways though. I am Taiwanese born and only immigrated to the USA, 6 years ago. The USA doesn't have much reason to care for Taiwan except for geopolitics in the region. Sure there are some industries that hold value for the USA in Taiwan but none of them are important or essential.

What the problem is that you're taking the statement of public opinion would be vs. any supposed reality of the situation.

Taiwan is a set piece against the mainland and we aren't much else.

if you fall for this next fucking yarn there is no hope for you on Sup Forums. you will never survive. you will argue with shill forever and fuck up any thread you're in. If you respond to this storyteller, you are a dumb fucking faggot and should leave.

I love taiwan but with regards to the US it's a chess piece. First island chain and all that. Nicest place in Asia though. Mainland China is filthy and full of chinks. Korea is filthy, rude, and the women aren't even that hot (it's all kpop propaganda). Japs are nice.

Nice

But you do have boba, and LIN SHUHAO.

That's gotta count for something, right?

Taiwan is Chinese, as is entire South China Sea.
