There were tons of off-brand goods that cost pennies. Potatoes, onions, celery, carrots, egg noodles, rice, beans, (imported Spanish-language) spices, oranges, grapes, bananas, pork, chicken, beef, and tons of other frozen veggies were all RIDICULOUSLY cheap. If I tried, I could easy feed a family on $29/week.
