Yeah tearing spacetime whatever that means from a real perspective isn't a concern. The best we can do is make absurdly heavy high energy particles and test to see if they still behave like waves (they do) and thus are governed by quantum mechanics.

not really. Usenet and Email both predate the world wide web by a significant margin, and IRC by a year or so. You could still access a web server before the WWW, but you had to link directly to its IP address instead of a URL address.
