Why are firefighters treated like shit by the general public?

Why are firefighters treated like shit by the general public?

nobody likes a hothead

really? where?

Ambos, Firies and Nurses are the most respect imo.

Um, they're not....

Firefighters are seen as heroes here, more so than cops, even when cops weren't hated.

The only person who hates a Firefighter is a DYEL numale who is pissed that they, rightfully, score tons of snatch

Since when is hating firefighters a thing?

Usually we joke about how much Firefighters are loved compared to cops who get all the hate.

>they, rightfully, score tons of snatch
really? I had heard that many of them were total flamers

i guess it's never good enough for you OP.

They usually aren't, in my experience.

I giggled tbqh.

Most of the firefighters I know are drunken shitfuck police academy dropouts who wish they could still Chad around like they were in highschool. Not really endearing personality traits.

?
Firefighters are treated like local heroes in NYC and get mad pussy.

Cops and EMTs are wise to their coke usage, infidelity, and sticky fingers though, but that's the pot calling the kettle a poor tipper.

Cuz they don't do shit most of the time and idk about anyone else's department, but mine hasn't saved a structure in at least 25 years. EMS and police do more.

OR YOU KNOW? PEOPLE WHO WANNA SAVE PEOPLE FROM FUCKING DIEING IN A FIRE.

Threads like these expose the liberals easier than a gay guy covered in whipped cream

They are? I think I missed something

Firefighters are almost universally loved. The only thing is when they aren't running calls they are literally being paid to eat, watch TV, clean the trucks, sleep, and work out. They also tend to be paid pretty well, possibly a bit too well for the education required for the job. Spots in real FDs are often very competitive, obviously everybody who wants in works at volunteer stations.

They often draw parallels to police as being much more liked despite some perceived equality in their social position for some reason.

Some Firefighters tend to be a bit of a bunch of drama Queens about the supposed horrors of their job and all the evils they see when some 2 year old dies in a house fire, but every newbie EMT sees that shit and only gets paid $9 an hour to see it too.

I've never, not once, heard anybody talk shit about firemen

you dont even know those firefighters are real bum criminals. they get paid top dollar to sleep on the job. The stay all night have drunk sodomy orgies in the firehouse. Thye bring over spic girls and get drunk and play music and fuck all night. Then they break into people's rob them and then murder and set fire to cover of the evidence. nothing but a bunch of bum gangsters!

>Steve Buscemi
it all makes sense

Firefighter here, maybe I can help. I'm non-union with a smaller department, but still a 'paid guy', though I did start off as a volunteer.

I have to say that from my perspective, having worked in both a strictly-EMS agency (referred to as 'third service', ie not a private ambulance and not fire based) and a couple of FD's now, I can safely say Firefighters are overpaid and overloved for what we actually do.

The fact is, 85% or more of my run volume is EMS-related. I will, on occasion, reset a fire alarm or put out a fire. When I do put out a fire, many times the sprinkler system already had it controlled, or the building is still a total loss due to how quickly fires can spread through modern, light construction once it's past the drywall and in to the roof.

But the fact is, 90% of my coworkers absolutely hate doing EMS shit. It's mostly just what we suffer through to ride the Engine (or Truck, if you're in a department large enough to have actual truckies). So understandably they are often shit at it. The guys who like doing EMS will wind up at the 'third service' agencies I mentioned, which are typically county funded and only run medical/trauma calls. They do it for almost a fraction of what I am paid. Frankly I am looking for one to move to in the next two years.

There are almost no fires anymore, not like there used to be. Most places do not need a career fire department. The only reason you actually have them to the extent you do is because of the IAFF, which is one of the most manipulative and aggressive labor unions out there. And they have a piss-easy job because they have the 'hero image' for their propaganda laid out on a plate for them.

EMS is the real run volume and is where the actual service happens. It also has huge potential to reduce healthcare costs but that's a few years out. It's honestly where our focus should be, but it's not.

Butthurt ex quarterback detected

Wife got fat, huh?

Nobody hates firefighters. They just forget/don't care about them. My friend's dad is the local fire chief and he is based as fuck.

Firefighters are so outdated, why the fuck do we pay them 50k plus a year to drive around in a million dollar truck to save cats from trees? Fires should be an insurance problem not a state problem

firefighters are beloved
Far above police

>Hating firefighters

Is that a thing in Australia or the USA?

In my career (15 years) and the careers of literally everyone on my department, there has been one single fire save and that's from the old fart who's about to retire. Even then it was only because the house had no smoke detectors.

In house fires one of three things happens:

1. Nobody was home, or was awake and got out
2. Smoke detectors wake people up, and they get out.
3. They sleep through the smoke detector, or don't have one, or are too infirm to escape.

In #3, almost every single time, they are VERY dead by the time we get there. Modern furniture is made out of far more petroleum product than wood, and burns extremely fucking hot and toxic. People actually don't stand much of a chance.

And guess what? If your house is thought to have been burning longer than 10 or 15 minutes, none of our asses are even going in there, because your roof structure is fucked.

There is very little 'saving people from fucking dieing in a fire' for what you are paying us. Mostly it's our bravado and desire to keep collecting that sweet-ass taxpayer check.

I guess I'm a little self-hating. But it's the fucking truth and I'm about to be out of this anyway. I can't stand most of the fuckers I work with so screw it

What? Firefighters, unlike cops, are universally treated as heroes. They also get tons of pussy. They're one of the few professions that project the stereotypical "manly" image, like lumberjacks and sailors.

t. son of a firefighter of 36 years

>fucking leaf

This is becoming my most used reaction image at an alarming rate

Bullshit. Unless you service a tiny ass township in the middle of nowhere, I'm calling horseshit. My father would routinely go on at least one big fire every couple weeks or so, with lots of other smaller alarms for local blazes that just got a little out of control and shit. He's also personally rescued at least 4 people that I know of from burning buildings.

You're either a liar or your crew is just shit and lets everyone burn to death.

Except he's right.

The industry is also completely out of touch with supply and demand. Applicant to position ratio even at my department is like 300 to 1. There is an entire sub-industry in this field based around prep books and coaching guys to pass the oral board interview and concoct the right answers.

Heretic. The only way you can do to gain admission into heaven is to admit Jesus Christ as your personal savior.

If you're in an older city you have a legitimate need, I won't argue that. Older buildings are still fire prone.

New construction is fire resistant until it's not, and then it's not worth saving. You're just causing the homeowner a headache by making cleanup more difficult.

Most of our fires are in the rural parts of my county, so yeah, by the time they even get noticed they're usually a total loss. I have seen just a few fires in the newer construction and they are often contained by sprinklers.

I'm calling bullshit on your dad having 4 saves unless you're in a major metro area.

because not enough things burn alive.

>Applicant to position ratio even at my department is like 300 to 1

Funny enough all the places that need firefighters don't get any applicants at all.
ex
>forest fires, gg finding people good enough
>small towns up north, GG pay is shit and nobody wants to move there

>Why are firefighters treated like shit by the general public?

They aren't? They're probably the most loved and revered public servant.

What the fuck is going on down in Australia?

>be firefighter
>people come to station all the time
>black kids actually like you
>qt girls smile at you at restaurants
>people wave instead of flipping off

Then I became a cop and my whole world has changed

This. Ive destroyed enough cracker eating omar sucking faggot catholics tonight. Made a brazilspic close down xhis own topic. Catholics worship a faggot Argentinean who thinks thinks that you can worship moohamad and partipate in sodomy and be saved. Catholics are going straight to the fires of Gehenna.

So tohear that. I thank offi ers for their service all the time. They should be revered on the same level as men in the military.

what i'm in wildland and the amount of dicksucking we get makes me extremely uncomfortable. trust me, me nor structure guys really deserve the ass kissing but they give it anyways.

Do you really think there's going to be a fucking FIREMAN on FOURCHAN at 1:36 AM who just HAPPENED to be here for a fireman thread?

Because (((they))) want you to support troops instead to make you stop questioning why they go to the places they go.

all the volunteer firefighters I know are fat and desperate for validation. Almost as bad as nurses.

Cool post. Thank you for your insight.

My uncle, back in Canada, was working briefly at a fire department... (a couple of years) He quit because he said the place was a joke. I was younger when he worked there so I can't remember the reasons why he thought this, exactly... I will ask him.

Can vouch for this. Most of them in my area can not pass the physical test at the academy and go to the fire academy

After like 10 years of thinking of what I wanted to become, the only ones that came to mind were Police,Firefighter or a game tester.
I just want to do something that's right, meaningful & fulfilling.

Is it,though?

Anyone in here an actual FF?
How is the job? What's the pay like?
Do you just sleep in the firehouse?
Any gratitude for what you do?

I wouldn't really expect a heartfelt 'Thank you' while they're watching everything they own burned down in this day and age.
