Programming is just applied syntax to logistics, a child could easily do it.
I use to write up C+ scripts for UO custom servers when I was like 13, so long as you're actively motivated to learn it you can master most languages in a month or two.
It's one of the very strong reasons not a lot of women are programmers; because all you need to be a programmer is a strong sense of logistics.

I don't think they will have a lot of success getting women and NAMs into coding.

In my experience Python's a bad language to begin with because the teacher/teaching material can gloss over data structures entirely. Yet all programming is just the application of implementation of data structures and algorithms in order to solve problems.

In an hour? To kids? That would most likely lead to frustration. I ran a game dev club in uni, and even getting 20 year olds up to speed in a 2-hour tutorial was challenging.

I think the most important thing they can do during the hour they have is to ignite that initial spark of interest. Then kids can try a longer course with something like love2D or GM.

Practical programming is almost 100% using logical systems and flow to achieve a desired result. Higher level algorithm designers will need more formal mathematics, but 99% of programmers won't use any math beyond Big O notation or pointer arithmetic, which is high school level at worst. You're not going to fucking vectorize a web server or find the triple integral of an update loop, because that has no practical use. And honestly the more formal stuff only exists to prove that a solution works in the manner you say it does, but the reality of the situation is:

"I made this thing that I empirically know is more efficient, but I can't prove it via induction"

Moreover C and C++ are descendant from shell scripting (So calling a C/C++ program a script isn't technically incorrect), which is why they both require every main function to return something (Though later versions of C++ allow you to have a void main).
