Electoral College

Why haven't we abolished the electoral college yet? We're the only Democracy in the world that doesn't elect it's people by popular vote. That's like going to a Starbucks, telling the clerk what you want but then they decide for you.

Why did they give this dipshit a show? He goes full tumblr sjw retard everytime and calls it comedy. I honestly don't know if he is the walking embodiment of Poe's Law or not because he takes it up to 11 every episode.

you live in america you fucking moron

>America
>Democracy

>That's like going to a Starbucks, telling the clerk what you want but then they decide for you.
terrible false equivalency

>Democracy

That's your first mistake. We're a republic you dumbass

we're also the greatest country in the world. you do the math.

We're a Republic

How small do you think Drumpf's micropenis is?

Well actually it's quite a good one, but he doesn't know it.

All Starcucks (or all service industries for that matter) have this system as you state your choice to an intermediary person and it's technically possible for them to give you something you didn't order, it's just that this rarely happens and would probably cause you to not accept that choice, just like the people wouldn't accept faithless electors changing the outcome of the election.

Direct democracy would be like a self-service coffee machine where your choice is directly executed by yourself.

You're not a democracy therefore you cant be "the only democracy in the world, blah blah" fucking moron

Makes you wonder how quickly the right would demand the abolishment of the EC if they actually voted someone other than Trump.

I hate that fucking faggot, he's the most unfunny person.

More states just need to pass the NPVIC

Lots of countries don't elect their head of government by popular vote.

>We're the only Democracy in the world that doesn't elect it's people by popular vote.

Bullshit, I can tell you for a fact the UK doesn't do it purely on popular vote either, else UKIP would be our third party.

Stop posting yet another, samey, shit thread.

on no he call him drumpf and said that he has a small cock, we to defend trump from this childish personal attacks!

grow up m8

>We're the only Democracy in the world that doesn't elect it's people by popular vote

American education

Democracy is 51% of the store wanting a mocha latte, guaranteeing you won't get your triple espresso.

>Democracy and Republic are mutually exclusive
>American Education

HQ this is Huffington Femm, we have a libdrone gone rogue, requesting backup, over. He's deviated from the narrative, over.

The electoral college perform the will of the people by state right? So it is a popular vote just a state by state popular vote.

Am I missing something? I like to at least give liberals a fair hearing but this makes no sense

>That's like going to a Starbucks, telling the clerk what you want but then they decide for you.
ah yeah, that's exactly what it would be like if it were actually like that, my dude

well meme'd my friend.

Much of the western world uses systems similar to the electoral college. So you might want to at least get your facts straight.

As for why we haven't gotten rid of it: The Democrats have spent 60 years changing the electorate so they have the edge in the Electoral College. They are going to continue setting that table in their favor until they can always win the election.

Republicans will begin to complain about the EC win they realize they have no actual paths to victory, but of course, the Democrats will laugh at them.

Why doesn't every country in the world have an Electoral College?

Maybe South Africans would move to those countries to achieve financial success then?

Maybe the U.S. would seek out those countries to beg them for financial and military aid?

Really makes you think.

No, but really;

Maybe if South Africa had an Electoral College, this wouldn't happen;

Its called state sovereignty. States need strong identities.

>week or two ago
>his show comes on after South Park
>too lazy to change channel
>goes on some rant about Trump
>"Communicating with Turkey is bad because it will piss off the Kurds, our greatest ally with ISIS. Trump put us all in danger by calling Erdogan"

How the fuck did this illiterate mudblood get a show?

Fuck off shill, sage.

Fuck this argument is getting old. Gtfo millennial liberal shillary staffer.

Democracy is a form of voting enfranchisement, not a government type. America is a republic where our constitution is set up specifically to safeguard us against democracy's shortcomings, even if in practice it is similar in many ways.

two wolves and a lamb deciding on whats for dinner

Because it keeps the rest of the fucking nation NOT AT THE HANDS OF TWO COASTAL POPULATION CENTERS!!

Not really.

>It's like going to a Starbucks and saying you and the rest of the patrons have decided they want the staff to stop selling coffee and instead sell tendies and having the staff tell you that no, the menu is fixed.

we're not a fucking democracy

go 2 bed trevor

You lost

We don't elect our leaders, and our party elections are FPTP which doesn't mean the top party got there by popular vote either.

>Counter Strike
>Sup Forums
>Peanut Butter and Jelly.

What does this mean?

>Beanut Putter

Do Americans really use republic and democracy as mutually exclusive terms?

Yes and that's the problem. They're two different things.

*They're two different things but people treat them as synonyms.

>Republic: everyone votes for officials and representatives
>Democracy: representatives vote for officials
Hmmm

The rest of the world isn't a country of UNITED STATES.

You don't understand the millenial viewpoint user;

They do not understand the purpose of, or desire for, states rights or even individuals rights - The bill of rights to them is a joke.

They operate under a herd mentality.

So to them, the entire concept of having a system that limits your ability to modify it and alter other peoples behavior is absurd.

We had a similar incident here, where people got deeply confused and angry about comments our former Prime Minister John Howard made (he was the Gun Grabber conservative).

He said he opposed a Bill Of Rights (Liberals: WHAT!? NAZI!? FASCISM!?) because it would not allow the populace to alter fundamental laws as they saw fit, like gun control (NAZ-HUH!? WHAT? WAIT...HOW DOES THAT WORK!?)

>(1)
Sage and move on FFS!

ALSO;

>WE WANT PEOPLE POWER!

>REFERENDUMS FOR EVERYTHING!

Okay.

>Article 1. Do you support the motion that all future migrant intake should be rebuffed on the grounds that FUCK OFF WE'RE FULL

>Wins by a landslide

WTF I HATE DEMOCRACY NOW!

>We need a system that stops stoooopid plebs voting for stoooopid decisions that Samantha Bee tells us are stooooopid

>WTF I HATE THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE NOW

Poor lefties.

Is the United States technically both? (A representative democracy and a republic)

Here in the UK people on the left are calling for a ban on referendums after Brexit, or at the very least amendments that would require a clear majority (e.g. 65% of the vote) for something to pass. These people literally despite democracy.

I heard referenda were not legally binding in the UK anyway.

It's almost like they want a set of laws to constrain the power of the ill informed mob.

They aren't in the U.K. or Australia. Technically Parliament uses them to measure the will of the people.

So going against one is basically your government saying;

>No, we don't agree with the will of the people

Imagine how much he'd care if Hillary won the electoral college but lost the popular vote.

>Democracy

get out faggot

Bit like how Labor dropped their support for the gay marriage plebiscite once it became clear that it would likely fail.

Communist groups have faced this issue ever since Russia in 1917. They claim to be fighting on behalf of the people, but when they actually go to the people they find out that the people tend to be fairly conservative and uninterested in the radical changes the Communists are suggesting.

Of course, the Communist response is then to assume that the people themselves are wrong and that they, the Communist elite, know better. This is functionally identical to the response from the Left in the US to the Presidential Election. Be glad they don't have the totalitarian powers the Bolsheviks had.

No it's like... the electoral college prevents The Mischiefs of Faction. Read a fucking book before you die, huh? Friggin' high school twat level babble. The electoral college was proven as relevant from the very douche bag faction violence you saw at rallies, at the election, and after the election. Cunt buffer is what the college functions as. Against cunts like you and your ilk. Read a fucking book.

We are a constitutionally limited democratic republic, which means that we are a democracy unless the convoluted and inefficient system that is the electoral college system fucks up in Sup Forumss favor, in which case we're just a republic because democracy is bad for a few years until it's good again.

>Trump losing the popular vote triggers Sup Forums

More people voted for Hillary and yet the racist orange got elected. The system is broken and needs to be fixed.

>Implying poltards wouldn't be complaining if Hillary won and Trump win the popular vote

>It's almost like they want a set of laws to constrain the power of the ill informed mob.

Please, if Trump won the popular vote and lost the election we'd need to build an ark filled with two of every animal to save the world from Sup Forumss tears.

what's their opinion on Super Delegates then?

*federation
Right sentiment tho.

As a democrat, I think they're garbage and that whole system should be done away with.

The USA is a republic, not a democracy.

But the population centers have more electoral votes. What's your point?

America is not a democracy it's a constitutional republic.

Im so glad we got rid of this shit bag. America seems to be a magnet for shitty liberals.

Being a republic does not mean you have to vote in your leaders with an electoral college. Even if that were true (it isn't), OP is questioning whether that is good idea or not.

Kinda. We tried to make it so weird that it kinda safeguards. If one group is abusing too much power we have the other groups of equal power stop them

Something fulfilling the purpose it was designed for doesn't make it broken. IDIOT.

you don't win a football game by running the most yards, you have to score points to win.

>We're the only Democracy in the world that doesn't elect it's people by popular vote.
Thats completely wrong. Did you not pay attention to the last big Britbong election where UKIP got like 15% of the vote, but only 1 seat. While some other party got 7% of the vote, but 3-4 seats. Everybody has different rules.

Anyway stay mad. gr8 b8 m8 heres your (you) sag3d

>America
>Democracy

>what is the Westminster system

ugh

we aren't a democracy you faget

Learn how to Constitutional Republic ya Cunt.

How does that change the validity of the underlying argument?

>We're the only Democracy in the world that doesn't elect it's people by popular vote.

We have an equivalent system to the electoral college, for exactly the same reasons you do. It makes perfect sense for a country with a lot of low population density areas.

>be Swedish
>get women impregnated by rapefugees

youtube.com/watch?v=fLJBzhcSWTk
this is why we have the electoral college

You're not a democracy.

Nice false equivalency you got there

First introduce proper voter id laws in every state like it works in countries with popular vote and then talk about introducing popular vote. When illegals in jew york and commiefornia can cast couple of votes each cuz nobody's even checking then it's a third world tier farce and not democracy.

>Implying

I don't watch comedy Central outside of South Park and Archer. Who is this?

America is not a democracy you stupid cuck

A comedian that triggers /pol. Oh wait, that's comedians in general except Drumpf.

it's almost like america does what they want and you sit down an shut the fuck up?

Referenda are basically glorified opinion polls. They don't have to implement it. If they didn't though, parliament would probably be dissolved, and the MPs who voted against their constituencies (thus defeating the sole purpose of an MP) would never be reelected again

passport or proxy?

I'm OK with going with the popular vote IF AND ONLY IF American citizens can openly kill anyone found committing voter fraud. That means you can openly wear your guns on election day and if some Democrat is driving a bus of illegals to vote, you can kill the illegals and the driver, no repercussions.

What say you Democrats?

>We're the only Democracy in the world th
not a democracy and that statement isnt true

This reminds me, we need to enact justice for the white genocide going on in Africa right now

You have it better than us. At least you vote for your president and legislative/executive chambers.
Here in Canada, we vote for a person who will represent our county,
The party with the most representatives gets to have its leader as PM and then they pick who sits in the executive chamber.
So stop whining faggot.

Why are philosophers always holier-than-thou, condescending know-it-all's? Serious question. I encounter philosophy students regularly and they're all the same. They all do drugs too.

>swallowing the left, right paradigm

hah, why should we listen to you, you're a mindless drone!

We're the big boys who got the first trancendant president in office and still you bitch.

You and your kind better wake up or ye shall be cleansed

>Why haven't we abolished the electoral college yet? We're the only Democracy in the world that doesn't elect it's people by popular vote.

The entire Commonwealth does it by seats, not by popular vote

kys

Oh look, another "informed" moron who gets his political views spoon fed to him by the daily show.

>We're the only Democracy in the world that doesn't elect it's people by popular vote.

Fucking Americans.

The US is a Repubic. That's why.
