Communism is the next stage of humanity following the capitalist stage.
What exactly is communism according to Marxist-Leninists:

1) Depends if you're talking about Socialism (with wages) or Communism (without money). Either these tasks will be automated away or bound to special privileges or you yourself have to clean your toilet. Decisions are made in the same democratic fashion as it is today, although more federated, direct and, of course, money will not play any role.
2) Nothing. What you get is dictated by your need, not your ability to conform to a certain economic model. You will probably say that this stifles productivity, but thanks to automation, a high productivity is now more of a problem than a boon insofar as there aren't enough jobs globally for people to get enough purchasing power to support the economy. Capitalism solves this by increasing exploitation and outsourcing production into third-world-countries where the wages are low and there are no regulations.
This will not work forever, as there isn't that much space for capitalism to expand to, and people in the first world can't individually consume much more than they already do.
3) Oh boy. This question warrants an own thread, but in all brevity: The soviets never made the shift to socialism because they were fighting a very taxing war and needed all their organization for it, so they just seized the existing state bureaucracy instead of rebuilding society. Then a paranoid maniac came into power and it all went downhill.
China is interesting in that Marxism plays an important role for the party, but not for it's economy. "Chinese Characteristics" is basically Confucianism.
I'm just bored and disinterested at the moment.

Communism wasn't supposed to be an isolated revolution, like the October Revolution. Marx knew that an isolated communist society, besieged on all sides by capitalism, couldn't survive.
Marx was writing about a "world historic" revolution, in which the world proletariat seizes the means of production around the entire globe all more or less at the same time.
When the Chinese and Russians had their revolutions, they thought they were kicking off the "world historic" revolution and then found they were wrong, and the good Marxists among them knew they were fucked. And they were.
