I understand that it's really bad PR to be called neo nazi. However, trying to call it a "roman salute" or say it was "just a joke" doesn't make the average person think you aren't a nazi, it just makes you look disingenuous.

I get that the golem comment at the NPI conference was a sort of in-joke for those familiar with the JQ. However, Spencer seems to want to flirt with the lines but recoil anytime the media chastises him for it. He's not THAT clever, no offense to him - he just comes off as not having the nerve for what needs to be said and done.
There are many white nationalists who attend these events and confirm that they are ok with socialism. At this point the only thing barring them from being NatSoc is that maybe they reject authoritarianism. That's not something I see them articulating though as their point of separation.
