What if Basic Income is the First Step Towards Dystopia?

What if it isn't the paradise everyone imagines it will be? What if it's like Judge Dredd, or Soylent Green? What if the effect of there being too many people and not enough jobs means we are just sitting around in squalor waiting for our rations, and passing the time by becoming drug addicts and violent criminals?

>you will never get to kill someone for their rations and water

>What if the effect of there being too many people and not enough jobs means we are just sitting around in squalor waiting for our rations, and passing the time by becoming drug addicts and violent criminals?

you mean like I'm doing right now

Have you ever read this, OP?

So we should just kill billions of people?

We're living in inverted totalitarianism, and basic income might make it worse. I always read "everyone will get to do what they want to do, like make art".

Not everyone is an artist. Most people will sit around and jack off to porn on the internet.

We should kill a few million people in a war that may set humanity on a better path. There are too many people, and too little of Earth being utilized. Let's put Africa to use.

It'll be the opposite, too many jobs, not enough workers.
NEETs are already a huge thing, people claiming benefits they have no right to is already a huge thing, most people hate their jobs and the people they have to work with, and some of the least desirable jobs are already low wage. If you suddenly started handing out cash for people who do not contribute, most people will not contribute. And with people not contributing industry is impossible, education will likely crumble too, who's going to want to teach? Who's going to bother to learn?

Imagine a nation of /r9k/...

>In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,
>By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;
>But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,
>And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "If you don't work you die."

No place on Manhattan looks like the gap between those two buildings.

> illusion ruined

>As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
>There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
>That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
>And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;

>And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
>When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
>As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
>The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!

so if basic income is a thing, the unemployment rate will exponentially rise until entire industries collapse and the grocery stores empty.

alex jones talked about this in the past

Basic income as already been tried and it failed spectacularly.

The Chinese tried it with rice instead of money, fucking kek.

COPS WATCH BREAD!!!

i want my rhubarb ration.

Been reading Kipling all my life and it seems he has something there to teach no matter the situation.

People are inevitably going to need a social safety net. Not everyone has family support or connections to help them maintain constant employment. That's always going to be a problem.

The welfare system is the left-wing solution to the problem. Left wing in the sense that people are treated differently for their situation. People argue that its a system that rewards being poor and punishes being rich.

Basic income is a right wing solution to the problem. In the sense that everyone gets treated the same. Everyone gets the same payout and no one is rewarded or punished.

The main idea behind basic income is also the main criticism. People for it claim that the fear of homelessness or starvation shouldn't be the main motivator to work. While people against it claim that that's the only motivator to work.

But that makes no sense. Why is it that practically every teenager has a job? They live at home, they get a roof over their heads and food to eat, yet they willingly go out and work purely so they can have spending money, or to save up for their dreams. Rich businessmen have more than enough money to live on, and yet they spend their lives working incredibly hard to get promoted, because just earning a living wage is never a motivator for them.

So that's why I'm skeptical when people say that if we had basic income, no one would work. People want money, they want status, they want recognition, and they want to provide for their families.

Some people out their work because they don't want to starve, and that's a clear problem.

I agree with most of what you have written, but I think we should still be wary of the dangers you have expressed.

>People want money, they want status, they want recognition,

And at the expense of others. Including those on the basic income. The "basic" definition may degrade over time in the same way minimum wage has.

Leftists who oppose this

Israel is a racist apartheid state who has illegal Jewish ONLY settlements in the west bank where the border walls are wrapping around them inside Palestinian in an obvious land grab.
youtube.com/watch?v=Pp1wVPeg59Q

This is why terrorism happens and why the rest of the west gets blowback from it.

Israel builds these settlements on top of Palestinian villages that they have bulldozed by the military.

If you support Israel you are not a leftist. End of Story.

you are looking at it from what a motivated, well-adjusted, white person would do in a racially homogeneous country. that's where you fucked up. niggers have basic income, they've had it for almost a century, it has only worsened their situation and lessened their desire to gain status.

Basic income is the acceptance that human labour is obsolete and humans are obsolete. It's going to be worse than dystopian.

No, just not force people to subsidize each other. Basically, letting them starve if they don't want to be self sufficient

I just...

I get a bad feeling when Elon Musk pushes for it. When billionaires push for the idea that poor people won't have to work anymore. It seems rotten.

God damn that's terrifying.

How much longer do we have? 5 years? I'll have to know the signs so I can kill myself on time.

What happens to every bacterial culture when it reaches too high of a count?

Manna is already being used in most warehouses, notably in all Amazon locations. I have worked there and the reality is barely less of a hell than that story describes.
