I don't dig KDE
I prefer lightweight, simple DE like cinammon
...
Yeah because Germany is perfect yo
Looks hideous and has zero productivity apps. Literally for autistic neets. The real question is why haven't you taken the macOS red pill
because they don't offer a phone yet
I've it installed on a backup HDD though I prefer windows.
Because fedora is superior on all counts? And fedora is maintained by an actual corporation. If I wanted a meme distro I'd just install arch.
>macOS
Brought to you by the people who make shiny toys for idiots.
Arch Linux master race
i prefer to not have 8 system crashes a day
I use arch with dwm
gotta get off my ass and install gentoo
DON'T PRAISE GERMAN PRODUCTS YOU KEK!!!
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>macOS
You literally got goyimed.
bumba raasklaat earminao butty boy
Because the Kraut govt believes they have the right to hack your computer.
muh nigga
Red pill you say?
Then stop using Windows, faggot.
Pic related.
No.
>not a meme distro
>literally named Fedora
Are you enjoying your porn ban and the CCTV on your toilet, Britbong?
t. RedHat employee
>Honorary leaf uses openSUSE
what a surprise
No, because it'll probably just install a million pieces of useless software that hog all the resources
Just like Germany
Because it's a shit distro.
>using KDE
Wait didn't they kill Gnome a while back? What else can you use besides that?
KDE is bloatware
I don't get this post. Opsec is important. Look at distros like Linux mint, literal Bulgarian botnets.
So yes, I would rather have my distro maintained by a corporation that gets contracts with the govt over a distro maintained by neets who run their servers over blogspot
>cinnamon
>lightweight
Is this a joke?
>in 5-10 years "made in germany" will mean "made by mohammed"
feels bad man
openSUSE is backed by SUSE which is the second largest Linux Server distribution vendor. So claiming that openSUSE is botnet makes you a RedHat shill.
ask Correa where is Assange
Because rpm
no they changed it, but it's a pos now
now there's flash back, mate and I think there's another one that look just like gnome2
Because nobody knows who is in charge of SuSe.
First Novell bought them. Then some company named "The Attachmate Group" bought them. Now the owner is "Micro Focus International" and 50.1% of them is owned by HP.
The whole corporate structure is shit and nobody knows if they will survive the next year.
And the Community of the OpenSource Spin-Off OpenSuse is small and shitty.
They just desperately copied RedHat. But RedHat is and will always be superior.
If you want a bleeding edge Distro: Fedora
If you want a OpenSource Server Distro: CentOS
If you are a company and need LTS and aweseome support: RHEL
> Using Linux at home, and it's almost 2017

> But even if it's "for fun", you still insist on using pre-made distros, not building your own (LFS)
> Resource consumption is literally the same as Win10 on most distros (unless you use i3/xfce/lxde/lxqt/LGBTQ+killmealready), and on modern PC you won't feel the difference anyway.
> Current kernel don't support AMD drivers

> "B-but it's free!" Not really, but yes, you don't need to pay to download your *buntu. But guess what, you don't have to pay for Windows either, if you are that communistic.
> Bickering about DE and apps, which you can easily change/remove.
> Arch, which is great for learning basics, is suddenly for "tEh xXxEdgyxXx kids".
> bickering about package managers.
I expected better from you, Sup Forums.
Huh. I should reinstall Linux and shit. It's been a long time.
>If you want a bleeding edge Distro: Fedora
You can't get more bleeding edge as Tumbleweed.
what distro do you like?
linux is shit for daws
>if you are that communistic
Without capitalism there couldn't be free software. So stop calling it communism, when it's not.
There was a question yesterday the Chairman of openSuse answered on backdoors and botnets, mostly relating to the new bullshit uk laws. Take what he said as you will.
what's daws?
digital audio workstation all the ones that work on linux are not so good
I'm a fucking pleb when it comes to Linux so I used the newbie friendly Ubuntu. Ever since they sold out to Amazon's bullshit though I haven't really kept up to date on their releases, or Linux in general. Honestly only like 4 programs are keeping Windows 7 installed on my machine. Vidya as well, but I haven't really been into gaming for a while now but it's nice to know I can just install a game quickly and it'll run.
God damn DirectX shit. Wasn't there that new suite for Linux that was supposed to be better than DirectX but no one uses it so games still need some shit like Wine to run?
Honestly I'd be interested in just wiping Windows off my machine this weekend if Google Drive (I know, but it's a really easy cloud solution for me), and some sort of media player that is as lightweight yet powerful as MPC-HC worked. I know VLC will but I really like MPC-HC.
Can't think of any other shit I use that wouldn't be compatible on Linux. Maybe League of Faggots because it's fun to just hop on with my friends while drunk and just fuck around in the non competitive matches while on comms. It's a way to hang out with friends that moved since school and stuff...
Is it? My bad I didn't know that
Kde is hot garbage
>I'm a fucking pleb when it comes to Linux
Then go for openSUSE. It really is for plebs.
LoL looks OK for wine. appdb.winehq.org
Ubuntu. Because I like to get work done.
These days though, OSX. Because iPhone apps
Yes it is. RHEL is great but you have do everything manually. If you are into server configuration you should really try out YaST/SUSE.
Just don't even try linux for games at this point in time. Run a virtual machine with gpu passthrough
All of the programs you mentioned run on Linux. It will be a pain to install them though.
>install pepoo
This guy know what to do.
Linux box + VM is the way to go.
Im actually an Ubuntu pleb tbqh
Gentoo + i3 baby
Once you learn the i3 keybindings, it works like a dream
I thought that Amazon shit was gone
I know you can disable it
>apps
>macOS
Are you 12 or mentally retarded?
probably a homosexual
Because I can pay Bombay gang rapists a shit ton less to do remote work on windows than I can on that shitty system.
Because I already fell for the Arch meme
I've been using suse since 2003, I would not advise you start learning linux on it. Suse tends to be server focused. You will find tons of stuff that you have no clue if you should install or not and end up with a drive full of server related things you will never use and be confused. I recommend Xubuntu. You avoid Unity and have Ubuntu forums and help. Not nearly as much with newbie help with openSuse.
There's a difference between an unstable rolling release development version without any support and a stable Distro for endusers.
The equivalent to Tumbleweed would be Fedora Rawhide.
Fedora is the most bleeding edge you can get without having a unstable Distro which could break with every update.
And the reason for this is very very simple:
RedHat has the most skilled Linux Developers. Their developers made systemd and they made udev and are highly contributing to the kernel.
They are fast at solving Bugs. I had a feature request for Fedora once and it took them just 2 fucking hours to implement it, The next day it was in Rawhide and a week later it was in the stable Repositories.
Because linux runs gimp, sketchy, or no drivers at all for my computers hardwares.
...That's really it. That's been the deal breaker. I would set aside time to learn to use it otherwise.
Relative to Sup Forums, it would take a lot of dollarydoos out of the software giants who have a disproportionatly large say in governmental and forign affairs.
What's your favorite way to run a VM? I know there are a few solutions out there. What's the best one?
Well I remember in the first and possibly second release you could """disable""" that Amazon shit but it still sent info and shit to Amazon even if you didn't use their Amazon Glass or whatever the fucking search bar thing was called.
I remember I installed Xubuntu on some old laptop I had because it's the lightweight version of Ubuntu and this laptop was fucking old as shit at the time. Might be a good idea now that you mention it.
>and some sort of media player that is as lightweight yet powerful
> not knowing superior mpv
>RedHat has the most skilled Linux Developers. Their developers made systemd and they made udev and are highly contributing to the kernel.
> Arch linux is trash because I can't use the terminal
>systemd
it probably searches internet and download those poor opressed malware
>le amazon memery
Fucking install Ubuntu, don't if your hardware can't cope with unity, and you can't set up another DE.
>If you are into server configuration you should really try out YaST/SUSE
> YaST
This is actually the thing which i hate the most about Suse.
If they want to be a Server Distro, then why the hell do they need to make a idiot-friendly GUI like YaST?
If you want to configure your own Server, then i hope that you will be smart enough to just do it with the command line.
If you are too stupid for this, then please don't touch the fucking Server!
because everything that comes from (((germany))) is not worth your time.
I do. It's pretty lame
>Fucking install Ubuntu
Thanks for the advice, Jeff Bezos. Will do.
Can not run dedicated software on it.
I actually just installed it for a work laptop. Coming off Mint XFCE, i have to say Suse is way more usable, and hardware compatible. I'd recommend it for anyone looking for a linux desktop.
How much memory does a DE have to take up for you to consider it lightweight? Does it have to be like Damn Small Linux, where you could run it on something from 1995?
Cinnamon isn't lightweight ya dweeb
Linux has tons of productivity "apps". They don't all play nice with documents and other files from Windows and Mac systems all the time though.
>KDE
>current year
>Plasma still randomly crashes
rpm is meh, AUR has fucking everything and more.
Because it's not Debian with Gnome.
>systemd is shit
Every single relevant Distro is using systemd
So, what do you choose?
1. the Distro from the guys who developed it
2. a Distro which is using systemd, but with developers who are too stupid to make anything like systemd on their own.
>falling for the Arch Linux meme
It's been 2 years since GNOME got good again. Why are you still using that polished turd Plasma?
Use XFCE desktop environment when your hardware is bad. It's in my opinion the best low level DE.
Turn off Zeitgeist if you use unity, and don't want your activities to be journaled.
Ubuntu is popular and if you really care for privacy you will find enough neckbeards blogging about setting that enforce it.
Don't use a GNU/Linux when you're not ready for the experience, meaning doing some tedious shit for ascenion. Ubuntu has all you need.
...
The fuck is a low level DE? And why would you pick the bloated shit Xfce over something actually light like IceWM or JWM or even LXDE?
Slackware or a BSD flavor.
I don't bother talking to newbs. The one thing you mention is a window manger the other is a desktop environment. Xfce is more stable.
>t. lxde user
Seems really gay
>The fuck is a low level DE?
A "low level DE" is a desktop environment that looks like ancient Windows 98 and lacks basic features.... but it's 0.0004% faster than GNOME or KDE and all the cool kids and hipsters use it.
If you have better Hardware than a vacuum cleaner, then you don't have to use those lightweight desktop environments.
>It's been 2 years since GNOME got good again.
GNOME went full womyn-power. Never go full womyn-power and expect people to back you ever again.
>GNOME went full womyn-power
Same for KDE and Firefox.
Fucking SJW even ruin OpenSource Software.
But KDE somehow managed to not fuck up.
story?
I want it writed by an user.
...
What benefits does it have over other mainstream Linux distros? Why use it when you can use Xubuntu or Mint that is easy to use too?
I'm using Manjaro :^)
I would have installed openPEPE if the installer had worked on my laptop.
>pcworld.com
Free software projects are always short on money but SJW manage to fuck that up too.
SJW keep out of free software REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
