When the Chinese are getting a better deal they smile and and praise you. When they feel like they aren't getting what they want they throw hissy fits and get belligerent. What you have to do in that situation is stay the course and eventually you realize that the Chinese are full of hot air and are all talk.
What's going to make Trumps presidency difficult is the fact that liberals and the mainstream media want to see him fail. They want him to fail so badly that they will go so far as to regurgitate Chinese propaganda that Trump is a madman. Buckle up folks, this is going to be a wild 8 years.

They aren't really that seperated. Taiwan was formed from the Chinese Nationalist party leaving mainland China after the rise of Mao Tse-Tung at 1949. It would be similar to the Democratic Party leaving the continental US and setting up a new country at a nearby island
