Two of my four grandparents are Egyptian. One looks white and is from the far north; the other is from the south and could never pass as white. He would look black if not for his wavy hair (his father, my great grandpa, looks like him only with frizzy hair, i.e. looks black).
Should I apply as African American for college? I have asked the colleges to which I'm applying, and all but one of them, including Harvard, say I can apply as black, and that Egyptian can be considered African American. They're pretty dumb and PC for thinking Egyptians in general are black. But I guess black is the closest fit for one quarter of my heritage, since southern Egyptian is pretty close.
Should I check the box to buck the system and get an edge?
(BTW I look white and I don't "identify" as black.)

Really the only thing holding me back is fear of being accused of pulling a Dolezal/Shaun King. But I don't think they can accuse me of that if I'm honest about my heritage (being Egyptian, part southern Egyptian, but not sub-Saharan).
