In a rush to say the SNP ruined everything, many unionists who're no friend of Labour forget that Labour was slowly strangling the country to death before being kicked out. (And that in turn, simply by presenting the first... first minister who wasn't a total non-entity since Donald Dewar, Salmond did lead an almost unrecognised improvement in Scotland's self confidence, by giving it an official representative of sorts where once a man of lower status than a Cabinet Minister stood.)
