His lawyer was a rookie and played the case wrong, she claimed self defense for a man that opened a door when they are claiming he was afraid people outside were trying to break into his home.
She should have claimed the weapon misfired as he had no idea the gun was even loaded, should have plead manslaughter worst case for manslaughter 10 years tops, best case little to no time.
He might win an appeals if he gets a better lawyer next time.
