That model doesn't explain sunrise and set though. If the sun was just passing around in a circle overhead, it would disappear into the distance appearing much smaller than when it was overhead. Think of how planes appear and then shrink off into the distance when they fly over. But the sun stays a similar size and comes up over the horizon and back down. In your model it would appear as a tiny speck in the distance, grow as it was right over you, then fade off into the distance at night.
