Given the rising Orthodox population on Sup Forums I wanted to create an Apostolic Christianity General. If you're Orthodox, I wanted to ask: What of my general post in could be added onto to add the Orthodox as well?

The Seventh Seal is on that and Kingdom of Heaven is bullshit and fedora much of the time.
I know the videos are long but they are absolutely worth it. Pic related arrived today.

>If you're Orthodox, I wanted to ask: I'm not, I can't decide what I am. I am culturally Catholic (done all sacraments), but I see a lot of problems with the modern church which lead me to question some of its decision in the past.
Especially the fact that the Orthodox Church has never has a schism. This may seem like arbitrary but I believe the 4th Crusade was the turning point where the East and West consciously fell apart. It is not the Church's fault, but the tearing asunder was initiated by the West when the Crusaders sacked Constantinople.
Since then, the Catholic Church in the West has fractured several times and the currect situation with Vatican II and SSPX is looking like it could fragment even further.
For these reasons I am thinking of being initiated in the Orthodox Church (I am not a practising Christian yet), or maybe even in Islam (though they seem joyless in their worship).
Jaxson Williams
Tbh, the claim that a church's origins are from biblical times is pretty meaningless. Every non protestant group (Orthodox, Catholic, Oriental) says that they're the original one. All of the protestants say that they're the only non corrupt church despite many of them draining their congregations of shekels. Not to say that tracing your theological roots isn't important, but it comes off as disingenuous to say claim that anyone has unchanged doctrine when the world and how people practice has changed so much in 2000 years.

Why yes, thank you. It's important to keep conversations in their own respective threads.
Now as for Catholicism over Orthodoxy, the key decision for me is one of authority, as it should be for anyone. The substance of the primacy of St. Peter - whether the office is primary in a honorary or mechanical sense - seems fairly one-sided from my research to side with a mechanical understanding. Theologically, the church's distinctions from the Catholic Church are hardly substantial and all seem within the scope of the Catholic Church or end up basically being semantic differences . Because of this I still have a lot of respect for the Orthodox church to be able to lead people to salvation but I do not find their claim to authority valid and so do not find them entirely correct.
Adam Wilson
From what I understand, and I may be wrong, the Orthodox Christians did change their mass and practice over time, which lead to an "Old Believers" sect which broke off from the main church.
Nathan Miller
I can tell this is from Protestant source because it is a dishonest characterisation.
Let me offer something. The idea of Abrogation wasn't used until the 9th century. The concept is not mentioned in Quran or Hadith.
Christopher Anderson
(((Kingdom of Heaven)))
Adam Watson
Oh really this is very interesting. Can you offer a link for this? I know there are nationalistic and cultural differences but not something like changing the mass!
I agree with you on the 4th crusade though. The Council of Florence seemed set to resolve the east-west schism but fell apart with the collapse of Constantinople. It was terrible.

>>no schisms within Orthodoxy Do any of these still exist?
Xavier Adams
Yes it is. All creation is welcome within the church as the church is a hospital for sinners. We cannot bind all things to the body of Christ without welcoming all things. This does not decide how we understand how things are biologically or whatever else you'd like to get into but there should be no rejection of God's creation.

That comes hand-in-hand with the belief of primacy having mechanical power between offices, so yes.

The Old Believers movement is just something I remember from reading up on Russian history as opposed to in depth studying the subject. According to this link [ factsanddetails.com/russia/Minorities/sub9_3b/entry-5099.html ] they practice their services a bit differently, but the theological differences aren't too much. They've been persecuted a lot, especially during the Soviet period, so there are a bunch of different Old Believer sects around.
The broader point is that as time goes on people will always find differences and change how they do things, even when trying to keep to the old ways.

>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Orthodox_churches#Other_communions Oh dear. I was hoping this was the answer to the true Church. Now things get messy, it is some combination of East and West. I think that subconsciously I was delaying this information from myself.

Hey guise, I'm doing a lot of research on the history of marriage and relationships in the US and I'm trying to find info on pre-marriage interactions between men and women, how courting worked, how common pre-marital sex and cheating were, non-amorous relations between men and women, general views of the public on sex... and you got the drill. That kind of stuff. The culture of relationships, particularly among kids (18-26yos).
Do you guise have any info, preferably books, on the matter? I've been searching but to be honest I don't even know what search terms to use, it's such a tricky thing.

I'm been slowly getting better. I still drink but I've cut back a lot and lost a lot of weight. I'm trying to go to church a lot more. I go to a monthly Catholic young adult group now.
Glad to see you bad...inspires me to rededicate myself.

Grew up Christian. Family was very devote and took the teachings seriously. I couldn't play any cool video games and Pokemon was banned during the time period not owning Pokemon cards was like having a gaping pus oozing head wound.
Grew to resent Christianity and church and became edgy atheist. Got in constant shouting matches with family trying to show them God isn't real.
Fast forward 15 years family is still very close and they all married in the church and have lots of kids. 3 per sibling on average. Common decency is being eroded every single day and I begin to see the benefits of the Church and the community.
I still don't believe in Christ but I appreciate all Christianity has done to help mold this nation and how lost we can become without it. Without some standard of morality, the powers that be will constantly chip and eat away the fabric of this nation.
I support America being a Christian nation. Even if I don't personally have faith.

Also, finally a catholic general thats not orthodox (though those guys are cool, its just not my vibe)
Catholics are not called to avoid judgement of others, we are called to judge well. The entire purpose of considering ones own "block" before anothers is to ensure the judgement and followup condemnation is not based on raw emotions like pathetic liberals or weak SJW faggots.
Rather, when god calls us to judge, as judgment or attribution is an inevitable part of human reality. he asks us to do so with mercy and forgiveness in heart.
In the end, white people would be (slightly smarter) niggers if we acted like them. But we do not, the glory of our ethnicity is in the history our forefathers carved out by an attitude of humility towards the sciences, of dignity and respect for all men of all walks of life, an appreciation for hard but honest labor and a love of all things that exemplify and uplift life.
they did this by condemning degeneracy, aiming for the best possible position in the world, or if your interested in a trade, becoming the best in the trade. By studying the world because god made it to be understood. By supporting the family over the individual and allowing sacrifice, forgiveness and mercy to trump the evils in spirit that come from a closed selfishness, arrogance, or the pursuit of irrational 'justice'.
Our heritage is truly great and we must bear the load and become great ourselves
Jordan Bell

>not opposing Islam
"The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day" (CCC 841).
Sebastian Brown
Think about it. Over the past 2 decades what has all the television and comedies been about? Softly mocking Christianity and pushing agendas of the queers/minorities/liberals. Always careful not to prod hard enough to get a real response, just enough to take a jab and finish off with a joke. We allowed this to happens over 2 generations without opposition and guess what? It worked. Shit like Will and Grace and Queer eye for the straight guy were pushed on everyday Americans. Challenging anyone to push back so they could say "haha look at this silly over reacting christian conservative! It is just a joke."
Recently they have gotten more and more bold as the aging conservative population lost control of the media and the internet. Meanwhile those on the fence began facing ridicule and even the termination of their occupations for not accepting the hyper liberal PC culture being forced down our throats.
They have been taking inch by inch daring us to openly oppose them. Not we are at the breaking point and hopefully the pendulum has enough forced to get us back to something resembling sanity.
