They don't have a single relevant player in the industry to compete against the likes of Apple, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Facebook.
Those are the companies with the highest profits and market capitalizations in the world so it's not like they don't have a reason to compete.

The US has a much larger same-language market with relatively similar laws. That was the point of the EU, but they gave it too much unchecked power and it's fucking them over.

With different languages and different laws. I know it's a meme that every European knows English, but many don't and they're required by law in some countries to have software/etc in the country's language.
