I'm not suggesting all subsidies to the poor are wise just that the concept itself isn't necessarily flawed. I think poverty aid should be less focused on the idea that magically all who its given to will rise out of poverty and more out of our personal expectations for what basic standards of living we, as charitable individuals, seek to enable in those with the worst off lives.

I think we can engage some members of society but charity must not rest on expectations that the poor will no longer be poor, but rather basic standards of living we would want for ourselves if we fell victim to our support systems in life being removed due to mental illness, drug use, death of a spouse, etc.

I don't like that you put words in my mouth of wanting homeless to die. Homelessness is a big problem that needs attention. We already have soup kitchens to feed them and spaces for them to stay till they can get back up on their feet so I'm not sure what else the left wants us to do. Another thing is differentiating between "im homeless because I lost my job and cannot find another" and "I'm homeless die to drugs or other such things", because I do actually have no desire to give even more free stuff to druggies who refuse to get help with their problem.
PS- The linked story is pis poor at being news because little of it news and the majority of it is just there to make the reader feel sad desite them both having arrest records and drugs being a problem in their lives.

That's a load of shit. You don't know who I am. I've been destitute and homeless, lived in my car for two months. I lived that way until I saved up enough from my new job to be able to rent a little house.
But being in need has nothing to do with leftists wanting to believe themselves to be charitable with other people's money. There should be a safety net for people, Americans first. But let's not pretend that government taxation makes on charitable.
I also don't understand people like these two "parents." If they spent all that energy they used to game the system on working, they could have rented a decent place and their girls would still be alive. You could volunteer at a soup kitchen and donate food all the time and they will do nothing and still pretend they care more.
