It was a tu-154 and it was only 3 miles off the coast out of range of anyones AA. It was most likely a technical failure, our friends in Russia are very very prone to them due to failing infrastructure.

What i am thinking but it was a closed flight with only your military personnel and choir onboard along with a few Russia 1 journalist soooo i am almost positive the old bear exploded due to malfunction.
well it's sochi and muslim regions are close, and there are many churkas in sochi itself.
