Come and See is probably the most realistic "modern" portrayal of the nazi's in respect to the brigades of conscripted criminals and known murders they sent to Belarus during WW2.

The Estonian movie "1944" is probably the closest you'll get for an authentic, non-propaganda movie about the eastern front. Estonians were conscripted into both armies during the course of the war and ended up having to fight each other wearing the uniforms of two opposing superpowers that their country laid between, so they aren't patriotic about either. Instead you just get a pure look at what a shitty situation anyone on the eastern front was in.

The problem is I feel like they went overboard so that western audiences would find it palatable. The film takes place in 1941 when the German submarine arm was still having resounding success against allied shipping. The atmosphere seems more reminiscent of 1943 when the war is definitely turning against Germany, and their missions really are turning into suicide runs.

Nazi supporters actually trashed the opening screenings in Germany because they deemed it "unpatriotic" for showing war's realities rather than mindlessly glorifying it.

Also underrated Russian-Belorus movie "Brest Fortress" about first day of Nazi invasion. Not as grimdark as "Come and See" tho. But it one of the best WWII modern movies.
