Find something that fulfills you intellectually, ethically and emotionally. Read some classic Greek and Roman philosophy (I love Seneca). Volunteer at an animal shelter or a retirement home. Learn as much as you can and read everything you can get your hands on. As a final recommendation, check out Julius Evola's "Ride the Tiger" if you are feeling particularly overwhelmed; it's a great place to start that will fill you with hope without stooping to obscurantism. Yes, I may be able to help. I believe Christianity is genuinely true, and I believe it for very rational reasons. There's only so much one can say in a single thread, so I'll point you to a couple of the most worthwhile books to read. Read "I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist" and "Cold Case Christianity". The first covers some of the reasons to believe God exists and matches the description in the Bible, and the second book goes over the evidence that the events regarding Jesus were historically factual.

The only reason atheists purport the notion of God as ridiculous, is because they always imagine Him as some limited being, like a "sky daddy," because they refuse to conceive of possibility outside our comprehension, lest they have to admit we may be held accountable to something outside ourselves. Well, I would suggest that the problem with that, is that what you get with unitarianism is more geared around creating a secular social club than finding out what is true about God. It's true that a lot of theology has piled up over the centuries, but that's just various ideas from various Christian philosophers, some of which will be right, and much of which will be wrong. As always, you need to be discerning, and the enemy knows that many options leads many prospects astray.

There's no simple answer on discerning what is true or not, but some points of advice: 1) never go based on what you would simply prefer; this is what most people do, and it is almost guaranteed to be wrong. 2) read the scriptures, because they contain what the people who received instruction from God wrote down. 3) listen to the various ideas, and try to figure out which ones actually match up with what God says and are consistent, and which ones don't. 4) Don't worry about deep stuff that is only mentioned briefly and God doesn't seem to care much whether you understand, such as the nature of the eucharist.

It really depends on what you mean. If you're just asking about "gods" in general, then goodness and purpose are not necessarily fundamental. They are plenty of religions in the whole that worship evil deities.

In other words, we did not take our own notions of "good" and "purpose" and invent a god around them. Instead, He came to us and revealed Himself to be good and just.
