>not realizing that architecture is one of the many ways modernism has ruined the world
Libraries then.
Libraries now.
Pig disgusting.
so sterile ugh
This shit is demoralizing and oppressive -- feels like some sort of prison.
I know, right? It's the library at my university and it's the opposite of comfy. Fuck minimalism.
Don't call it a grave, it's the future you chose.
Trinity College Library
MUH DICK.
Brutalism is amazing fuck off faggot
>brutalism
Go back to the 70s, shill.
Where's Dredd when you need him
if you like brutalism you are LITERALLY a commie
Thats actually kind of neat.. I bet all those floors on that side building are merely stairwells.
...
you mean a modern architecture LOVE thread
Not the first person to notice that.
That's literally the only "good" brutalist building ever constructed. Keep cherry picking, leaf.
The fuck is that? Engineer should be shot
What's the worst architectural movement of the 20th century? My vote goes for brutalism.
looks like schmit hall @ uw
This is just fanciness without any sense of what it's doing. Flair for the sake of flair.
pretty
so fucking ugly
brutalism by far
this, just so unaesthetic
The problem wih blocky buildings is that they all look the same. There is no individuality, just plebeian conformity.
The guy who build it was literally called Goldfinger.
>A discussion about Ernő with Ursula Goldfinger's cousin on a golf course prompted Ian Fleming to name the James Bond adversary and villain Auric Goldfinger after Ernő. (Fleming had previously been among the objectors to the pre-war demolition of the cottages in Hampstead that were removed to make way for Goldfinger's house at 2 Willow Road.) Goldfinger consulted his lawyers when Goldfinger was published in 1959, which prompted Fleming to threaten to rename the character 'Goldprick', but eventually decided not to sue; Fleming's publishers agreed to pay his costs and gave him six free copies of the book.

Every single one of them.
ok let me cherry pick another (((good))) CANADIAN building
...
Brutalism.
I think trinity college library is where they got the inspiration from.
Did you go to SFU?
>Goldprick
kek
>Every single one of them
Sone were breddy gud.
Brutalism really loves it's upside down ziggurats for some reason.
Piss ugly.
Every architect active in the 1970s needs to hang.
looks like a prison
That's cheating.
well i always thought that building would be optimal for surviving zombies as it has the best roof area to defendable parameter possible.
gotta grow them crops on the roof n whatnot
member when architecture didn't look like shit
I'm not a fan of the modernists but I have some positive examples that are really quite nice
Do you think they'd let me set up a fort to live in there, between the book stacks?
...
brutalist buildings are how i feel inside.
classical European architecture is how i want to feel.
...
Most of this thread is just OMG LOOK AT THIS (Brutalist building from the 60-70s) THAT REPRESENTS ALL MODERNIST BUILDINGS!!!
MODERNISM SUCKS AMIRITE?
people cope in different ways user
...
...
George Lucas said there was no connection. I suspect he was just trying to avoid a lawsuit.
...
...
Yes, it's true that people single out brutalism for being hideous.
One of Hitler's greatest crimes was that he didn't execute the faculty of the Bauhaus.
>Brutalism really loves it's upside down ziggurats for some reason.
It's because they're designed by jews and jews worship the devil.
Is that balcony supposed to sag so much?
Okay, that's kinda cool though
>Modern archfags will defend this
My college library is like this and is packed as fuck everyday
t. /r/le_donald
>that picture
Disgusting
Architecture is a reflection of the state of things in general.
oi mate right by my house
A very ugly building on my own campus, which manages to be even worse on the inside.
...
I actually like postmodern deconstructivism. Also I'm pretty sure that's 21 century.
Modernist architecture died in the late 70s. Everything since then is post-modern.
Bauhaus looks fine, desu.
>muh modern buildings are actually goooood!
>stop cherrypicking from the 70's bro
>bad modern archfags
With a building like that, I'd need to know what the thought process behind its lack of windows was, but more than likely it would still be shit
That's art deco.
>2.5 billion to rebuild penn station
Are you sure? That seems rather cheap.
>brutalism
>bauhaus
Fucking christ read wikipedia.
Brutalism did not come from Bauhaus. Brutalism was based from france. bauhaus was based in germany. Some jewish bauhaus students escaped to israel and created the white city of tel aviv using bauhaus methods.
That particular building was constructed in 98, it's technically a 20th century movement.
The Bauhaus building itself isn't that offensive, but the school spawned many cancerous architects, and functionalism is generally a shit style.
...
Especially with all the stonework that would go into it
To crush the soul
I didn't mean to imply that Bauhaus is brutalist, see
Nigger do you know how cold it gets in upstate NY? It's probably designed to stay warm without bankrupting the city.
Culturally the 20th century began in 1914-1018 and ended with the fall of communism and the end of the cold war.
Sydney anons will know this meme
Guy has shit knowledge and shit taste other than being a moron. hurr durr X IS DEGENERATE SO ME NO LIKEY X!!!!
The way I understand it is that new buildings "require" materials from all over the world and other shit
That's bullshit but I believe it.jpg
As for Tel Aviv, looks really bland. At least it's not actively offensive, though.
this picture makes me REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
forgot my image
Anyone else find this weirdly pretty?
Kinda in a dystopian sorta way. Looks like something you'd see in Half Life.
>t. UW class of 2005
Isn't this that place where Eggsy lived in Kingsman?
...
German Neoclassicism, nothing else.
fuck that building, second ugliest in Sydney. First is that tower on the harbour near Lunar Park.
104814526 (you)
Whats the matter? You no likey when someone talks shit on your precious ideas?
Everything is connected.
I dont like brutalism, but I'm glad it exists.
Its a reminder of the evil we must abolish.
LOST!
Why are such awful buildings built? Who looks at these and goes "Oh, yeah, that looks really nice. I mean, i can really imagine in 300 years time people remarking about how nice this building is like they do today with 300 year old buildings." They're not even cheaper than nice buildings.
brutalist and modern buildings are not the same thing
>That's bullshit
how is it bullshit user is perfectly right
Chinese skyscrapers are very nice.
The Jin mao tower comes mind, almost looks like Chinese palaces stacked ontop of eachother.
