In my experience the only republicans concerned about the jews or Israel are the (fairly) religious. My grandpa is a great example. It doesn't appear thry realize that most of the folks behind everything they dislike about our country and what our culture has become are Jewish. They see jews as a historically persecuted yet earnest, hardworking and decent people (even if a little strange). I have even heard some say the reason they support Israel and are concerned for its sanctity on religious / doomsday grounds.
The upside to this is that they are mostly older, and younger republicans, for better or worse, are becoming less religious and thus less likely to want to blindly support Israel.
The downside is that the older folks tend to be more active in politics and hence more likely to paint the republican brand as pro Israel.
