If the first headline the BBC put out conveyed that nuanced (“Women may write better code, study finds”) it took less than just 35 minutes for an editor to ditch the “may”, thus dispelling any doubts about women’s superior coding ability.

Isn't the BBC operated by the state and paid for by taxpayers to some extent, or just segments of it?

then they made their title slightly less misleading five months later
then they made their title a little less misleading again three months after that

Interesting thing about programming is that women actually had somewhat of a headstart.

Early "programming" was actually viewed as a female occupation, sitting at a desk and typing or operating a ENIAC etc.

If there were any occupation where women should be kicking ass it would be programming

Lovelace didn't wrote the first program or algorithm. Her algorithm was written for the analytical machine of Babbage. Do you really think that he designed this machine (which took years) without having small programs to test it? That he presented it to others without demonstration programs? He even gave Lovelace the formulas which she transformed into a table of operations (the program).

The ENIAC women didn't program. The ENIAC was a huge calculator, it literally had 5 operations: +,-,*,/,sqrt and then you wired the computing units to chain them. No loops, no branching, no goto, no operation memory. Is chaining addition programming? No. The formulas were simple calculations for artillery.
