I was told I was special and smart and all i needed was a college degree and I would undoubtedly be a millionaire in no time.
Now I have a degree in psychology because i legitamtely wanted to help people, but if you dont have PHD you cant do shit. I dont have money for a PHD so now im paying off student loans for my worthless bachelors while making 13 dollars an hour in a call center
That's sucks man. People have to be more informed on the work implications of their majors before pursuing them.
Noah Ortiz
i think its retarded to expect a fucking 17-18 year old to know ANYTHING at all about the implications of the degrees they choose that will impact the entire rest of their lives.
IMO, parents should tell their children what fucking degree they should get.
Samuel Martin
>you can be president some day
vs
>Illuminati reptilian lizard shapeshifters can be president some day
Jonathan Thomas
My parents told me to go to college and get a decent job doing something I enjoy so I did and do. I could have gone for a job that would pay more but I live a financially secure life doing a very interesting job that also helps me find purpose.
Oliver Phillips
I literally didn't even know what a major was until after my freshman year of college. My folks apparently didn't think this was necessary information
They also seem to think that some people still value you just for having a degree regardless of major. They're clearly still stuck in the 80s
Sebastian Sanchez
Nobody pays to go to graduate school idiot they pay YOU.
Jeremiah Torres
>don't worry about sports, its ok if you don't win >everyone is the same, we need to be friends >violence never solved anything >the world is a beautiful place, what's most important is being with people you love

>leaving for basic in two weeks, 11b option 40
I sure hope the granola gene skips a generation.
Gavin Gutierrez
>They also seem to think that some people still value you just for having a degree regardless of major.
this is why boomers are the worst generation. they succeeded because they fucked over the next generation, not because they went to college
Alexander Diaz
Master's degree programs are typically not given stipends bro. That's why they've promoted the shit out of them.
More time in college and you rack up more debt.
James Ross
TOLD: I am smart enough to get a career in anything that I work hard at. Someday I will find a woman to date, and like her so much that I decide to marry her. Then I will decide to have kids out of the blue.
REALITY: I have no intention of getting a career, cryptocurrency has been a great investment so I'll work 3-4 years tops before "retiring". I foster natural nervousness with women to avoid dating at all, because it is a gateway drug to marriage. NEVER EVER HAVE KIDS I AM SCARED MY PARENTS PROPHECY WILL COME TRUE AND I WILL DECIDE I WANT KIDS FOR NO REASON
Blake Smith
Boomers: "FUCK YOU! GOT MINE!"
Luke Powell
your parents lied to you
my parents told me the same thing but it was true lel
David Thompson
Who cares about MSc's? Not only are they worthless but I'm not talking about them. OP said he doesn't have the money to get a PhD! Nobody pays for PhD's - if you get accepted, they pay YOU to do your PhD!
Easton Walker
Best intentions...
...I was fed the hard work line, too. It's been true, but neither they nor I understood how truly hard it would be for myself & my siblings (& friends & cousins too, for that matter). Talking about it at thanksgiving, & my grandfather said that the struggles he faced getting to where he is now was more on par with what we face than what his kids (our parents) faced, but for different reasons.
Xavier Smith
this, most professors when i were in college that were under 40 constantly talked about still paying off their loans
Mason Baker
They're not even boomers. They were born in 68 and 69
Ethan Harris
is it still possible to make money off crypto if you start now?
Bentley Anderson
I wish I saw the potential there
It should've been obvious
Grayson Lewis
>if you get accepted, they pay YOU to do your PhD!
this isnt canada idiot
Leo Reed
Are you fucking retarded? Do some fucking research. Can't believe Americans don't know shit about their own education systems.
Christian Stewart
Why are you complaining??? Anyone with half a brain knows that you need either a masters or a Ph. D to succeed in psychology.
You should have planned for it when you were barely starting your degree.
Brandon Foster
You can get it for free depending on the program. You'll just have to teach undergrads / help with labs / work etc
Colton Cruz
how about you back up your ridiculous claims first retard
Brandon Foster
When you're in a doctorate program you're an employee of the university. They basically have the rights to anything you produce while you're there.
Zachary Miller
If you are not getting paid to get a PhD you chose the wrong field.
Nathan Garcia
No, it is at LEAST free. Every school in America in the top 500 at LEAST will waive tuition, give fellowships, TA duty, etc: this will allow you enough money to not have to work and live while doing a PhD. Depending on the school, you get more money. This is a fact. Nobody works full time or even part time while doing a PhD because a PhD is a full time job in itself: you are officially employed by the university and do your job, which is research on top of class work and marking.
Tyler Phillips
>Anyone with half a brain knows that you need either a masters or a Ph. D to succeed in psychology.
when you take psych 101 they tell you the opposite.
most kids going into college dont know that you shouldnt trust your professors in 101 classes because the professors are ultimately trying to create job security for themselves
Jack Stewart
>money >for a PhD I guess the >psychology students are dumb meme really plays out lmao.
Parker Perry
what about all the fucking money you must pay to get up to that point?
Jaxson Allen
>Heather? Do you have any idea how many idiots major in psychology and go "Oh Shittt" when they realize a BA in it is useless?
Brandon Sanders
Was basically raised into believing that the world was a pretty shitty place and there isn't much value in life after high school
graduated high school, got fired from every job I got in less than a month, started believing that there was no meaning to life
then I realized that both my parents were clinically depressed, and that as a result so was I, and started doing something about it.
Elijah Moore
>and started doing something about it.
are you on happy pills now?
Christian Wood
You made it, user
Aiden Thompson
I still think it will change the world someday and right now the market cap is 17 billion
Nolan Wood
I was a free range child. My parents didn't tell me shit about anything leaving me to figure life out on my own since, apparently, they never got their shit together either.
Hunter Russell
That's what loans are for. That's irrelevant, however, since OP stated he completed his undergrad program and stalled at a PhD.
Jaxon Reed
Do you seriously not know how graduate school works? I'm not doing your goddamn research for you. Google this. Also, I encourage you to check any school in the USA and check how their PhD's are funded. You will be pleasantly surprised. I picked a school that I think matches your intelligence level, and lo and behold, even THEY will fund your PhD:
Keep in mind, they are ranked somewhere around 171 in the USA for psychology.
You are a fool. You should research these things more.
Jackson Thomas
>That's what loans are for
who wants loans?? moreso who wants to prop up the ridiculous idea of loans?? tuition is so fucking high because they expect students to have these huge loans!
if ppl refused to get loans unis would have to lower tuition
Leo Williams
Why would you trust your teacher? Trust people who have a degree. Go on the internet and meet people and talk to them about it. That's what I did tofind out a doctorate is useless in my field.
Ayden Hernandez
OK fair enough, but it should be noted that most people that are going into Graduate school are falling for the MSc trap.
James Phillips

R-raj is that you?
Gavin Allen
That's your problem. But how much you paid for your undergrad doesn't have anything to do with the fact that you are paid to do a PhD by the institution that will give it to you, provided they accept you. They will only accept people they want to give the funding to, obviously. But in order to be accepted, all you need is a half decent GPA and some good recommendation letters. Standardized tests help, so do undergraduate research awards.
Adam Ross
Stop complaining! A degree in anything is extremely useful you just need to be creative. You can get pretty much any entry level consulting job after a couple of internships. Maybe start a business, I dunno, but your situation isn't that bad if you have a degree. You really just need to put in the effort bro. Stop being a faggot who let's the world bury them. Take fucking control and fucking do something with your life.
Lincoln Cox
no but i sit in a cubicle with them
Jackson Robinson
>they said life is like a box of chocolates >turns out chocolate gives me the shits
Oliver Watson
Dude if you're dedicated to going full doctorate track for anything besides nuclear engineering or quantum computing, you're going to be a slave to the academic system for your whole life anyway and loans become moot. Its just something you have to make your peace with.
Or join the military and jam it in for a while first.
Nicholas Wood
How so? Most schools in the USA don't even offer an MS! And they explicitly say that they aren't funded. Not only that, but the MS has a bad reputation there! Here, MS degrees are funded but also a requirement for starting doctoral studies. They also have a good reputation here.
Jason Reyes
It's a doggy dog world, Ray... but I'm the fuckin' Chinaman.
Angel Rivera
You're an individual, not the entirety of society, dumbass. If you want to move up, you have to play the game.
Hudson Sanders
i agree, but then it goes back to 17 year olds are GOING to make bad decisions if their boomer parents tell them they can succeed at anything that makes them "happy"
Gabriel Green
Give this man a cigar. All this whining about cost of a PhD, but if you choose a field that matters they give you a stipend and waive tuition. Also MSc in these fields is the consolation price for failing the qualifier oral exam.
Evan Butler
thats not an argument about what i was talking about regarding the loan structure and how it ruined tuition prices
Blake Collins
I don't know they never did any predictions.
Currently i'm working on my Ph.D on particle physics.
Jonathan Cooper
My mom had incredibly high expectations all throughout my early years, and I ended up trying to prove her wrong. I was IQ tested when I was young and scored higher than the test could measure, so they thought I was some sort of prodigy or something. The usual, >You can be an astronaut or a scientist! bullshit.
Typical case of "zeros on homework, 100's on tests".
Wasn't even in the top 10% of my school when I was looking at college, but my SAT score was nearly perfect so I got admitted to the one school I applied to.
Years later at 25, I've got a comfy as hell tech job that pays good money for the cost of living in my area. I get to travel occasionally, for both work and pleasure. Went to Miami, Vegas, and Germany this year.
Thinking about buying a house, but I also might not be working here very much longer. I know I can make fucktons more money if I switch to a large company, but right now I get days off whenever I want, and that's hard to put a price on. More than 35 paid days off in 2016.
I've got about $10k in a checking account, trying to decide how that's going to start being invested, which is where the house idea comes in.
I'm terrified of that kind of commitment, though.
Landon Powell
should have done better in school and got scholarships, grants and bursaries
Gavin Cox
Accurate, I've been in business with my pa since 17 and I'm 32 now.
Our family has always valued life style so we do things like: tennis, skiing, golf, racket ball, boating, and other white things.
My family isn't rich but my dad still manages to have 4 cars and live on 225 acres in a 4000 sq ft log cabin. Pretty based.
Josiah Evans
Yes - you understand. I hope OP does too.
Aiden Nguyen
Sure, but if you're still in your 20s there's always time to retrack and do something else. I was three years into an archaeology degree when I realized I had absolutely no interest in the 'science' involved and just liked pictures of arrowheads.
Gonna do six years in the service then start an organic goat cheese farm. Those disgusting little fuckers shit money.
Mason Martin
Yeah, but so many idiot Millennials are using it to kick the can on student loan payments, they've written articles on it. It's just further accelerating the degradation of post-secondary education.
Obviously, not every graduate can get into to graduate school, but a lot more than prior to 2008 are going because they avoid their repayments for 18months/2 years.
Shit's fucked up.
Connor Mitchell
im 31, my goose is cooked
Isaac Fisher
OP I have the EXACT same story. Went to a coding boot camp a year ago, now I have a fulfilling job making $25 an hour. Go learn to do something practical, if it's just to just part time or as a hobby. Hth
Jace Stewart
Also I may add, I'm speaking in generalities of education in general, not just psychology programs.
Brayden Sullivan
my dad pretty much red-pilled me from the start, come home one day >dad teacher said I could be president one day >your teacher is lying >why dad? >because only a few rich people ever get chosen, or people who work for the rich people, or people who suck up to the rich people >but why? >because america isn't really free user, sit down let me explain
then he gave me a long talk about how my life was gonna be shit more then likely because the system has been stacked in such a way as to make someone indefinitely the bottom piece and because we were poor as fuck, we were the bottom piece.
>so why can't we kill them all? >thats called communism, and it isn't any better >sit down user
my dad did this a lot, gave me a real perspective of what life was really going to be like, essentially a series of cages with people who are varying degrees of brainwashed telling other brainwashed people what to do. its great and terrible. so in my youth I just kicked around america in a shitty car saw some stuff, fucked some bitches, and now in my late 20's I drive for uber at ungodly hours because I can't sleep at night, and I make pretty good money, I also have two different girlfriends, so basically a weird double life where I pretend to be a jovial slave to money in one, and a red-pilled stoner in the other, meh its pretty okay. still watching trump win was one of the best moments of my life.
Xavier Bell
That has nothing to do with the degree. That's a problem of millennials being dumb, not doing research, and then complaining after. These people are college educated adults... I don't think it is unreasonable to expect some common sense and critical thinking out of them. :^) In what universe is the line of thinking "borrow more money to do useless degree to stave paying off borrowed money for a while longer" rational?
Thomas Mitchell
My parents didn't tell me shit. My mom was an alcoholic until I was 16, and my dad still is, so I didn't get much in the way of advice.
Owen Cruz
Well god damn dude you really weren't paying attention, were you?
Chase Ramirez
>Just be you, you will always make us proud so live how you want, just don't do heroin
Just took a job in Ohio working for a minor league baseball team after working for a year after getting my B.S. in Communications/PR. Might get my MBA/MSA from the #1 post grad program of its kind in the world or I'll find my nitch in the business side of sports and keep on keeping on. Things could be a lot worse considering how poor I used to do in school
Daniel Brown
You had a good dad.
My earliest political memory was 9/11. I think a lot of our generation ended up redpilled just from that bullshit.
I am doing about the same thing as you, just hit 20. Been on Sup Forums since before I hit puberty. Just kicking back relaxing and enjoying the lulz.
Robert Cruz
im cinci where are you
Christopher Williams
>what did your parents tell you your life would be like A successful life with friends from all over the world.
>what it is like Waiting for the race war to start.
Hunter Hall
>Might get my MBA/MSA from the #1 post grad program of its kind in the world Unless it comes from Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Wharton, U Toronto, etc then it isn't anywhere near #1 in anything.
Asher Collins
We never really talked about it, although they visibly thought that i would have no trouble in life. Which is basically what's happening rn in my personal life, life isn't hard people just make stupid choices.
Daniel Hughes
life would be like >Married >have kids before parents die >successful life is like >gay >not in a relationship >one parent has a foot in the grave and I have no kids >am a lawyer, so I guess I got the successful part
Jonathan Hughes
Akron. Was in Cinci a few months ago though and had a blast. Stayed at the Millennium

fraid so friend, had a beautiful aryan girlfriend for 4 years in early twenties but lost her because i was a horrible alcoholic
now i dont want to marry a single mother so i will most likely never have kids and dont have money to get a diff degree
Julian Sullivan
I don't know man, I agree it's more or less payday loan logic. It's unfortunate we have to live with these assholes, but at the same token that means we're that much inclined to get ahead from them by not being retarded. If only we can shake off the government enforced parasitism.
Dominic Rivera
Doctors sure as fuck aren't getting their PhD paid for.
David Wood
Ha haaa;we all long for the day of the rope brother
Ayden King
In loo?
Jose Johnson
Without looking, I feel confident knowing that nether of those shit schools offer an MSA, much less an MSA/MBA deul degree. Ohio U created the field back in the 60's and their professional network in the sports industry is fucking flawless. The education/experience you receive there can net you a job at any rank or level of sports
Ethan Price
yeah 9/11 fucked a lot of us in the head, we were all pretty much waiting for the other shoe to drop, either for the next terror attack or for marshall law or some shit, it made us all blithe realists I believe, at the least the people who remember it I've noticed.
Jack Young
>"You have never worked a damn day in your life" - Dad to me at age 12
My parents really set up no expectations, I am a VP at a big company making, small bucks and have a decent life. I'm not a scientist, author, geographer, artist or chef, or anything that I thought I would be growing up. I fuck computers all day and am generally lazy at my j ob, but get it done.
>38 >$75k/year >wife and 2 kids
Kayden Foster
I am moving from one red state to another, so it can't be that bad. More worried about the cold winters
Austin Moore
Dude, I'm 32 I just got married to a 25 year old that is family oriented.
My life was chasing the next drink or next hole to fuck or put a golf ball in for most my life.
Never too old brother.
Josiah Price
If nobody else considers it important enough to offer, what makes you think anyone but you will appreciate it? I haven't even heard of the MSA degree and don't even know what it is.
Zachary Sanchez
My parents told me that good grades and hard work would get me far. So I worked hard in both school and college. Now I'm a lonely, virgin wagecuck, always tired and unsatisfied. When I went to vist my mother for Christmas she literally would not shut up about how a friend of hers' teenage daughter is dating a 10 year older Syrian rapefugee and how awesome that is.

Luis Miller
When I was 8 my parents said "You can be anything you want. What do you want to be?"
I said "I want to be a drug lord"
They looked at me funny, laughed and then we all went to a house party where they got shitfaced.
I'm not a drug lord. :(
Ayden Williams
Parents fawned over me an constantly told me what a prodigy I was. Because I was a spoiled, pissy little ingrate, I got sick of being smothered and rebelled against their expectations in high school. Dropped out at seventeen, grabbed a GED, moved across the country. I started working at an animal shelter for $10/hr, but I pinched every penny for three years and parlayed it into my own business. Now I rescue, house, and train dogs.
I'm not the doctor or astronaut my folks hoped for, but they've never given me a hard time about my choices.
Liam Martinez
Honestly, if not for 9/11 we would've have Hillary as President. The modern level of distrust in the American government all stemmed for that ridiculously obvious false flag.
Hunter Long
Got 19 inches of snow here in Utah the day of Christmas
last young chick i fucked was 22 and she kept going on about her lesbian friends and when i called her babe one time she freaked the fuck out and said she was scared of that word and when i tried to tell her i wanted more than sex she broke it off. young women these days just dont want to settle down. and older chicks want you to take care of tyrones kids.
