These threads were better when the poster would post a description of the painting, or the event that is depicted. This way we are also learning, not just looking at pretty pictures.
example
"Battle of Grunwald", by Jan Matejko.
This painting depicts the Battle of Grunwald and the victory of the allied Crown of the Kingdom of Poland and Grand Duchy of Lithuania over the Teutonic Order in 1410. The canvas dates to 1878 and is one of the most heroic representations of the history of Poland. It is displayed in the National Museum in Warsaw.

Barge Haulers on the Volga (1870-1873) by Ilya Repin
"Zaporozhian Cossacks to the Turkish Sultan!
O sultan, Turkish devil and damned devil's kith and kin, secretary to Lucifer himself. What the devil kind of knight are thou, that canst not slay a hedgehog with your naked arse? The devil shits, and your army eats. Thou shallt not, thou son of a whore, make subjects of Christian sons; we have no fear of your army, by land and by sea we will battle with thee, fuck thy mother.
Thou Babylonian scullion, Macedonian wheelwright, brewer of Jerusalem, goat-fucker of Alexandria, swineherd of Greater and Lesser Egypt, pig of Armenia, Podolian thief, catamite of Tartary, hangman of Kamyanets, and fool of all the world and underworld, an idiot before God, grandson of the Serpent, and the crick in our dick. Pig's snout, mare's arse, slaughterhouse cur, unchristened brow, screw thine own mother!
So the Zaporozhians declare, you lowlife. You won't even be herding pigs for the Christians. Now we'll conclude, for we don't know the date and don't own a calendar; the moon's in the sky, the year with the Lord, the day's the same over here as it is over there; for this kiss our arse!"
why cant we have more based leaders like these?

Ill try, but post some of yours as well

The Wedding at Cana (1563), oil on canvas, by Paolo Veronese
>From 16th to the 18th centuries, for 235 years, the painting decorated the dining room of the San Giorgio monastery, until soldiers of Napolean looted it as war booty in 1797 during the Italian campaigns of the French Revolutionary Wars. The canvas was cut in half, reassembled, restitched and in 1798 was stored in the 1st floor of the Louvre Museum.

Painted by samuel morse.
He also began the modern era of electronic communication
I figured its crazy hard to maintain. For centuries they tried to keep it white but most of the time it was either a shade of pink, dirt-white with reddish patches, or a mix and match of solid red and solid white for walls and/or towers.
So at some point in XX century they just gave up and painted it brick.
