White guys were the only guys predominantly in the mainstream who could be thought to be attractive...so that was who was thought of as attractive.
More mainstream exposure, more consideration in being attractive, more acceptability.
Also it goes both ways. Hispanics & blacks are widely thought of as "inferior" to whites. So in trying to date interracially, male minorities are likely to pick whites who are "less than" so as to even the playing field.
Essentially the thinking is, I'm black so I'm not perfect, but shes ugly/fat so shes not perfect either...there is no reason she should rejecting me.
