Well, "piece of land" is an understatement and it especially does no good to simply mention Africa when you're talking about very specific Nilotic ethnic groups who are Afro-Asiatic in origin, there wasn't a specific time when power shifted into Coptic hands, these people have existed in Egypt for a very long time in one form or another. I wouldn't say there's any real link to Greece or Sub-Saharan Africa if that's what you're referring to. The Ptolemaic Dynasty was nothing but a line of Greek royals and didn't have that much of an effect on the native population who had lived there since prehistory.
I suppose the point of this is to just show how unique each region of Africa is and how it's impossible to take into account the entire continent holistically.
