In fact, most Climatologists and Biologists already say that it is too late for Western Civilization. We haven't learned as a society and a culture that you cannot destroy the very thing that you rely on. Even now, as the system in which we all rely on to live falls apart, people are in denial. Denial about what humans are doing to the planet (in particular, industrial civilizations), and denial that despite all what we have gained from our technology will mean nothing if our society fractures, and it is fracturing, day by day.

However, consumption can't be mechanized. It depends on population alone--and as many populations, especially those in developed countries, stabilize, companies shit themselves because they know full well what this means for their Ponzi scheme of profits. So, they kick the ball down the road by expanding into other countries, even though it isn't technically necessary to sustain their home nation. Globalism is possible and desirable, even, but not in this form. That is, worldwide trade has not just suddenly appeared, nor is that true of interactions. What has changed is everything else. Everything is now internationalized, just to maximize some company's profits. But, most people, not giving two flaming fucks how much more money Amazon or McDonald's makes each year, demand that their own tribe be prioritized above the artificial dollar sign.

Who better to breed and make new consumers than third-worlders? The hysteria over population decline isn't because of 'labor shortages' or bullshit like that. Automation covers that. So the logical response, to keep up growth, is to replace the problem. Hence the demographic destruction of developed white countries. Of course, this can't just be done in broad daylight--the population has to support such efforts, if only for a different reason. And this is also why the third world is never told it must accept diversity--the population is still growing, so there's no need. Corporations are all too happy to indulge in the creation of more customers.
And that is the 'humanitarian,' open-borders social force. It makes people feel good and virtuous, so they go along with the narrative without questioning who benefits.
