Most are decadent students from Paris who go back later though. Montreal has lots of universities.
A lot of people don't speak English, so you should try to learn some basic French or get a phrasebook, or just prepare to have to ask a few people if you need help.
Either way, people will be nicer with you if you make some effort to speak French first.
