But the fondation of Bulgaria in 681 was made possible by thé union of proto bulgarian tribe (which were warriors of hunic or proto turks or iranian heritage) and slavic tribes which lived in todays Bulgaria. So proto bulgarians had their gods and slavic tribes had their own. But the political and cultural alliance made the separating lines more difficult to establish.
