Important note: Thomas Aquinas copied plato and still can't deal with a cyclical universe.
All of these are arguments based on the fact that you don't know and you use your lack of knowledge to believe that you do know.

Thomas Aquinas was part of the Scholastic tradition, which extends from the Greeks, but was a staunch Aristotelian.
>and still can't deal with a cyclical universe.
I don't find it relevant at all to Aquinas' works. You're going to have to explain yourself because it looks to me like you're arguing against a strawman of his point.

>I don't find it relevant at all to Aquinas' works. You're going to have to explain yourself Aren't you familiar with Aquinas' First Way? Where he verbatim uses Plato's Prime Mover argument to extrapolate pluripotentiality and absoluteness of cause.
It's an argument in ignorance of time's potential loop taken without understanding of relativistic spacetime and closed timelike curves.
He argues that the divine must exist because he believe there must be one first cause, straight from Plato, but he cannot know so defaults to belief. Yet such belief cannot be anything but at odds with the truth for it denies any other possibility, though they be manifest.

We get traditionalists Catholics all the time. Much of the serious Catholic fanbase is traditionalist.
Well the first part is wrong and the second part is part-wrong. The pope carries papal infallibility, but that doesn't mean he's wrong from time to time, yes?
I kid.
Glad we got our Prot shitposter early. Wouldn't be a Catholic General without you.

Anglicans and other heretics have never cared about a Pope. Why the interest in this one?
/his/ has been taken over by Marxist and they aren't shy to admit it either. Its funny how people claim Sup Forums is a circle-jerk but this charge fits more with other boards like /his/
>Please pick one. It is derived essentially from the Platonist world view that declares there must be an absolute exemplar of each object. Aristotle merely takes that state there must be a universal object.
This was in contrast to the truth of Heraclitus, who said that everything is in constant flux, and has no perfect image. Panta rhei.
The Papacy has remained unbroken since the founding of His Church on Earth. Something your 500 year 'church' based on Luther's blasphemy can never claim.

What happens to the arts that we've learned once we're in the afterlife, Sir Wolf? I'm a drawfag and want to create beautiful works that glorify Our Lord, and I read some random quote that those who practice music can bring their skill to Heaven. Any information in our tradition about this?

See you next time.
Communion of Saints? Ultimately all it is is asking them to pray for you. No need to act as if it is worship.
Every time.
>Plato's Prime Mover argument >Plato's user...
But to your point, all five of Aquinas' Five Ways are not his arguments and he doesn't claim anything but the form he expresses it in. What are his arguments is the work he does afterwords.
>It's an argument in ignorance of time's potential loop taken without understanding of relativistic spacetime and closed timelike curves.
Way to show you have absolutely no grasp of what Aristotle of Aquinas were saying. Time has little to nothing to do with this as sustaining causation is what Aristotle and Aquinas are speaking about rather than temporal causation.
>He argues that the divine must exist because he believe there must be one first cause, straight from Plato, but he cannot know so defaults to belief.
The argument he gives is a deductive proof, not some guess:
Aquinas' Five Ways are five deductive proofs and each are to get five different results from classical arguments. For example, the end result of the First Way is "pure actuality", from the potential/actual distinction in physics in his time. From all five of those results he examines attributes necessary of such traits and then, afterwords, defends rationally that all five results MUST necessarily be the same thing. Afterwords, the term "God" is applied as it's entirely synonymous with how God is understood theologically.
There's no defaulting to anything.
Charles Cooper
You're trying too hard pal. Honorable attempt, but of all things to criticize the man for, you're criticizing him for one (as you believe) bad argument and using that as an excuse to not believe one of his much better arguments.
Why not start a skeptic general sometime, so we can try and clog your threads too? /sg/, I like the sound of it.

>>essentially Indeed. It cannot exist without Plato's theories of divinity. But if you like, replace Plato with Aristotle in . It makes little difference, the argument still stands.
To wit: The classical theological foundation of a prime mover is both pagan, and has no ken to modern scientific theory.
It is simply an argument based upon ignorance of causality.

YTKD isnt an actual christian he just pretends to be one because he thinks that conservatives ought to be christian. he knows next to nothing about christianity and as a rabid anti-semite is not really cut out to be a christian. unfortunately this does not stop him from roleplaying on the internet

Jayden Brown
>are five deductive proofs Yet based upon deductive reasoning, the placement of a single immutable cause cannot withstand the equally valid contention of a cyclical causal cycle in the 'big crunch'.
