While I was adolescent, I too aligned as very liberal. I thought that society would benefit from a human nation instead of a national one, and I had reasoning, information sources, and statistics to back up my thinking.

I went on to realize that even though liberal theories are bulletproof on paper, practically they are held together by nothing more than the belief that people won't deviate from the liberal line of thinking. But that's not how it works. Even most people that support progressive ideas don't follow the liberal ideals they spout. If they did, they would be the current protrctant harbingers of free speech, personal choice of lifestyle, and healthy living. But somewhere, they abandoned all of those ideas, and now the Republican party has become the progressive party because it promotes positive change for the improved living of any citizen.
