I majored in philosophy and am currently working on my Master's.
You don't have to take Plato/Aristotle/Kant outside of the basic requirement that acknowledges their existence and briefly dives into them. Once you get into your Junior year you start to specialize and you don't have to look at anyone you don't like. And once you're in your Senior and Postgrad work, you're so narrowly-focused on your topic of specialty.
If you want to learn East Asian Philosophy, you can. If you want to learn Nigger Philosophy (but let's be real, there aren't classes for that LOL), you in theory could. But you're not going to ignore the major figures who literally invented the subject. It is very much "required".
