Hmm, never knew SA even had nukes. Id assume it was because it gave no comparative advantage to be the only nuclear power on their continent, and placed them in contention with the only real nuclear powers, Russia and the US. Considering a proxy war would develop through the 50s-90s between those powers in Africa proper, it just creates more risk in general.

Then when Israel knew their designs would work went into production of their own nukes
Meanwhile SA, having received whatever they got out of the deal, destroyed "their" nukes because they didn't have the capacity to maintain them, as they didn't build them themselves.

Thus Israel knew their nukes would work while maintaining their "may we do maybe we don't" approach to letting the world know if they have nukes so as to continue dodging having to sign the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty (NPT)

Yeah I did a little more reading but they never seemed to officially test one. It's speculation that a test occurred in the Indian Ocean, and even deeper speculation that Israel was involved.

I stand by my original argument, however, that if SA and Isreal collaborated to build and test nukes, the cores made their way to Israel somehow. It's a lot of fucking shekels to enrich uranium just to throw it away.
