These places are barely stable. I'm not saying that the U.S. would trounce China, but bringing SA countries into the war wouldn't be much of a boon for China unless they plan to use them as cannon fodder. Internal strife inside the region would mean China would need to provide enforcement of the law, and spreading your army that thin isn't a good idea.
