Just finished Pihkal by Shulgin, interesting

I read passages of the Iliad in high school, my teacher was so into teaching ancient history I would have a mental boner in class from sheer excitement

He gave me some good tools to understand.. Things are very symbolic, the gods all have conflicts with eachother and act through heroes
Sometimes they persuade heroes, other times they use force
Often the heroes simply listen to the gods, knowing full well that it may seem random to themselves, but make sense in the whole

Only Zeus knows, they say

It reminds me of some sort of demonic possesion

...

Trying to learn Gàidhlig to keep my culture alive but our government is determined to replace us with moderate beheaders anyway so I don't really see a point.

My dad recommended me this at one point.. He read it when he was young

Something about disinformation and authoritarianism

Good c s lewis. Meditations was good as well but if you like pol alot its nothing world changing. Was definitely world changing at the time it was written. Stoicism makes so much sense

...

I'm reading Broom of the System right now.

Working through Pre-suasion and some other stuff on the Dilbert reading list.

...

Required reading for truthseekers

I wanted it as an introduction. I've got a lot more books on Stoicism in my wishlist which I'm going to buy once I get a little bit more money.

Reading this because I need to teach ancient Egypt and am trying to avoid the "WE WUZ KANGS" narrative. This book has done a good job so far.

>black people on cover

Yeah I know. Noticed that too.

A bit too WE WUZ PEACEFUL for my taste but I'm gonna try and make it to the end.

It even claims islam forbids domestic abuse, child marriage and pologamy among other things.

US Navy Blue Jackets Manual

Die verratene Armee by Heinrich Gerlach

A book about the battle of Stalingrad. It's only from the perspective of german soldiers. Gerlach himself was an officer in Stalingrad and the book was first written in his years as a prisoner of war. It got destroyed but he wrote it again in 1955, after he got released.
As it's written as a novel he involved the stories told by his soldiers who were in prison with him, too.
Pretty interesting read.

Dunno if there is an english version.

...

>not reading it in it's first language

Cover claims its the definitive english language account of italy in the world wars and so far not dissapointing

>Die verratene Armee by Heinrich Gerlach

Sounds excellent will check it out.

>Dunno if there is an english version.
Perfekt. Ich würde gern mein Deutsch besseren. Although given the last book I read in German was 'Charlie und die Schokoladenfabric' this is probably a bit of a stepup ;).
