>Be Mexican >Computer Engineer >Recruiter wants me to go atlanta to be a codemonkey with SQL >they will get me the TN VISA >70,000 pesos + a shitton of benefits >that´s huge in Mexico, its like the executive manager salary with 20 years of experience >70,000 MXN monthly are, 3,200 USD *12 = 38,400 USD yearly >Find out that's actually poverty in the USA
Fuck my shit up senpai, at least i can get married somewhere and make america great again... right Sup Forums?
Wyatt Lee
You have to work remotely.
Anthony White
topkek that's even better, i get to live like a richman in Mexico and never go out of my own home? fuck yeah, i could even hire a professional cook, to come and make me some food
Jason Barnes
There are many places in the US where you can still live comfortably at that wage. Atlanta is not one of them of course.
Jace Lopez
>codemonkey with SQL >expecting to even get paid for being a sql programmer
Luis Cruz
Currently studying CmpE in ATL myself, OP. I hate this place but I bet it's like paradise compared to the war zone that your country is.
Tyler Martinez
You are no engineer
William Reed
>38,400 is poverty in the USA
Only if you live in a large city like Chicago.
Even in a suburb, you can live comfortably. However, for your position you are definitely making a shit salary.
Owen Wright
That recruiter is fucking you.
Ask if there is a relocation bonus, ask if there are benefits.
Xavier Miller
why do mexicans like stealing our jobs?
Grayson Collins
tell me more about atlanta, how is daily life what do you hate about it?
>tfw my lab makes me think i'm one
yeah i guess i can thank capitalism, the amazing part is that even being paid like shit, in pesos is actually a lot of money,
also why the fuck does anything related to databases have so much demand? I got at least 3 calls in the last week and I'm not even trying to look for a job.
thanks user, im curious whats the average wage for an american in this kind of job,
Cooper Robinson
>stealing our jobs >implying that someone in america would take that job at that wage
Base for software development is ~$50,000 without a degree. Go onto www.glassdoor.com and you can see some examples. Be aware that the wage can vary wildly depending on degree/location.
Liam Reed
What do "SQL programmers" even do? How could writing database queries be a full time job?
Dominic Hernandez
Implementing relational databases for larger companies that deal with a lot of data can be full time.
I work at an economics analysis company that has a lot of full time SAS programmers that don't have a database, but we just brought in a DBA in order to make working with our data sets (we have thousands) much easier.
Joseph Jones
It seems like Mexicans are always cleaning things for white people... In this case sanitizing inputs.
Nathaniel Anderson
I dont know, maybe if the dollar wasn't so fucking expensive in the entire world people would stop flooding your country
Xavier Wright
Atlanta is big. Lots of homeless people. Public transportation is shady. There's always construction going on. Most of the roads are in decent shape but they could be a lot better. It's not as bad as I make it out to be, I'm just not a fan of big cities. As far as big cities in the US go, it's pretty decent.
Aiden Smith
This is true about a lot of big cities in America, unfortunately.
Jeremiah Edwards
If you have to live on that wage in America what the fuck. Fuck no.
Bentley James
It can work with roommates, but by yourself, not in a city.
Brandon James
Poverty in Mexico is the result of conquistadors hastily throwing together a racialist parody of European feudalism and making social status inescapable. Poverty in America, especially Atlanta, is because niggers find a way to ruin anything they touch.
Wyatt Russell
remove the homeless people thing and that sounds just exactly like where i live, Mexico City (and proably any other big city), thanks for the feedback user, have some pizza i made it myself.
Go on, user, i actually thinking on refusing the offer but , i honestly know little about living in the states (money related)
wait so whats a wage to make a decent living in the USA?, im used to have a high end pc with fiber optic in Mexico, thats pretty much all i need to live, i dont even like going out
ok so stay away from nigs
Kayden Watson
>Recruiter wants him to go to Atlanta Georgia >Will get him a TN (Tennessee) visa >Atlanta is about two hours from Tennessee border
Either youre a bad liar or you have a long ass commute
Grayson Miller
this, CompE =/= Engineering
t. EE master race
Easton Bell
Bro up with a room-mate, work and party for 2-3 years then get a better job.
Evan Cox
>the Mexicans are simply doing jobs Americans don't want bigot >you know like pool cleaning, lawn mowing, computer programming
fuck off
Juan Stewart
kek
Nolan Ross
In a city by yourself? $60,000-$70,000. If you do intend to go through with this, would definitely suggest a roommate.
$50,000 is workable if you cut corners/live cheaply in some cities.
Also, I'm guessing your original estimate is before taxes are taken out, so you're actually looking at closer to $30,000 after taxes.
Lucas Rogers
I'm an intern writing Java code and I get paid more than you...In half a year's time
Benjamin Allen
In addition to other explanations, DBA work is very common. These people are in charge of database maintenance, changes, and operations.
Some companies use SQL, especially T-SQL, to script procedures. I worked at a company that had a two tier web service, where all the UI was front end, and the "logic" you'd typically find in Java or a realy programming language was all SQL.
OP, what is the company name. I am from ATL and I may know which one, sounds familiar.
Elijah Long
Welcome to America m80
Joshua Ortiz
Do it.
Colton Green
im actually an Electronic engineer, the closest career in america that matches my profile is Computer Engineering (after looking for 5 minutes), i design circuits and shit, then like my devices to databases so, im actually curious of what's the real equivalent of my degree in america, (Note: Electronics and telecommunications engineering with an speciality in computer engineering)
you forgot VLSI design, thanks INTEL, kek mm thats what i though, yeah i was forgetting about taxes, really makes me think
meh, i guess is still worth it in the end in order to get out of Mexico, however america does not look that really attractive these days
lets see if you find out, it starts with H
Jaxon Carter
GL dude. Find a wifu and enjoy life.
Hunter Perez
>$38,400 >poverty
yeah no, that's pretty good. poverty would be less than $18,000 a year.
Noah Mitchell
It's not the company I was thinking.
Here's some info 1 - Some start-ups will offer people with little experience or no degree 30-40k to program. If you know SQL you should get more than a UI girl with no programming knowledge. See if you can push for more, like 60k. I am two years out of a 4 year comp sci degree and I make double your offer, in Atlanta.
2- Living in Atlanta for a single young adult is very doable for 38k per year. That's not bad at all. I know many people who make 20-30k per year and they live with roommates (although frugally). If you find a rpommate, you'll have a comfy life.
Ask for more or look for another offer though, you should be making 50k minimum if you have a degree or experience
Leo Foster
Juan don't make a mistake, you should get more money. $38,400? Weird number....it isn't round because the recruiter is pushing it down. Tell him you need a bigger salary. 50k at least.
Oliver Powell
the fuck is this?, how come Im not getting the usual "you have to go back"
Good advice user, thanks, ill keep researching
yeah the offer was made in pesos, 70,000 MXN i actually translated that to USD so we could have this thread, they know that's a great salary for MEXICO, but i no way for the USA i guess they are going with an "everybody wins" mentality, skipping of course except american wages
Tyler Anderson
fuck you shit bag.
you're driving down wages for the rest of us. go back to mexico. 38k is shit. an american would get paid at least 70k
Nathan Harris
Hes doing SQL for christ sake. I am a .net/java developer I never met a SQL developer in my life because they generally don't exist. Developers are expected to understand basic SQL logic and code. I never formally was taught SQL and i'm pretty damn good. Ever DBA I know worth his pay knows tons of different relational databases and the differences.
Gavin Thompson
it's hilarious when people who obviously have no clue what they're talking about try to express their opinion
Jonathan Wright
he's not wrong though. Knowing JUST SQL is like the lowest of low even for database guys. My mom was bored one day and asked me what I was doing once and I showed her SQL code and how it works and she got it and select statements in minutes.
James Edwards
Oh shit nigger congratulations. I found a similar job a long time ago and I'm living the dream.
Aaron Thomas
Going to be hard to stay away from nigs in Apelanta
Christopher Kelly
I really doubt he's expected to just write simple quest, but instead will have to actually implement logic to queries made by others. Why would ANYONE need someone to just write queries, it's nonsense
Ryder Powell
Are you talking about stored procedures? That's easy as fuck to do also.
Easton Ward
Miguel?
Ryan Torres
Juan?
Henry Lopez
>$32k/yr RIP. oh well get good at stuff then come to america. you can make 5 times that much! and pay 5 times as much for living expenses!
Anthony Wood
Ten tacos higher
Benjamin Ross
>Juan don't make a mistake, you should get more money. He is offered that because he is a dirty work visa holder meant to drive wages down. The only reason they want a foreigner is for a lower wage and because they can treat him bad, make him work long hours because if he quits, gets fired he loses his visa. It becomes a mild form of slavery if the boss is evil.
TN is a NAFTA visa, I hope trump wrecks that shit. If it is as easy as everyone in this thread says, no reason some american CS grad couldn't do the job
Jace Hall
Professional sql is a little more than knowing babbys first select statement.
t. 97k a year plsql programmer
Sebastian Fisher
I bet you actually are an expert in shit like Oracle Sybase or other specialized systems.
Juan Miller
Did you get a degree or just learn on your own?
Alexander Baker
He's lying. If you want to make money doing database shit you gotta master sql then learn one or more relational database systems. Then you make bank.
Blake Cooper
Oracle yes
Cs Degree then oracle certification
You don't need to know everything but everything
Tyler Sanders
THIS THIS THIS
Kevin Flores
OP is a fucking loser.
I make $6000 USD monthly with a part-time coding job and I live like a king here.
Jaxon Evans
prove it juan, declaracion del SAT
Luke White
>paying taxes when you get paid by a foreign company
lol, enjoy paying for that wall loser
Austin Turner
But you proved my point. It's dishonest to call you simply a SQL guy since you work specifically with oracle which has its own rules and guidelines. I dunno why guys are doing this dishonest bullshit up and down this thread.
Andrew Morales
>38K >poverty choose one you spoiled mexican.
Gabriel Mitchell
otro empresario multimillonario mitomano de chiles secos, que no comprueba nada, next
Tyler Campbell
No. Stay the fuck out. Foreigners need to fuck off.
Mason Edwards
>tfw you are assembler codemonkey for military tech >for 500$/month
I want to eat.
Matthew Baker
codemonkeys don't get paid very much. They pay indian codemonkeys even less on their Visas.
Easton Ramirez
at least your neighbors are white comrade
Mason Moore
That's really sad. Maybe it's time to start looking for freelance work?
Eli White
38k is basically poverty
Ian Mitchell
It doesnt make me less hungry tbqh
Caleb King
fuck assembly its a piece of shit, ez as fuck to read tho
Jackson Mitchell
if you think thats poverty you must live a decadent lifestyle
Zachary Jenkins
You get what you pay for.
1 you must be a retard 2 they must be retarded too 3 oh wait it might work but don't expect it to last
Zachary Powell
no
Jaxon Stewart
time to get out Boris.
Thomas Morris
why the fuck do leafs always come to shitpost every single thread?
Brayden Rodriguez
It's only poor if you have to take care of a wife or kids. If you're just a bachelor, 40k a yr for your first job is more than enough to have an extremely comfortable life and nvr be hungry.
Nicholas Nguyen
because retards like you don't ignore him. By acknowledging him and whining and calling him a leaf you give him what he wants and he will do it again. How about fucking ignoring them?
Zachary Foster
Is it chage something if I have free flat for that work without payment? And it will be my property forever after 5 years workin in that research center.
Andrew Morales
i cant bro,
Andrew Perry
Hey, it's your funeral. Gonna harass the fuck out of all the spics I see soon. If they're illegal I'll be putting tips in.
Joshua Hernandez
get the fuck back to twitter trump
Dominic Roberts
Not a shitpost, you need to go fuck yourself, and do it IN MEXICO. Fuck off, we're full. You act like it's unreasonable to want foreigners out of OUR country. It's not yours, stay in yours prick.
Isaiah Adams
is it really that bad?
explain
Samuel Cox
Get back to cooking your meth, Juan. Smoke break's over.
Michael Green
Isnt the cost of living cheap as fuck in most of mexico anyways?
Elijah Barnes
thats high middle class on the third world, a bit more and he can pretend to be high class
Aaron Perry
>be burger >promote globalization >promote capitalism >promote freedomz >fuck up half of the world by military/political intervention >regret it and go back to being racist and nationalist piece of shit after fucking up the world >picks the closest thing to hitler in the year 2016 >muh jobs >muh white race >muh wages
good job burger
Daniel Rivera
are you critiquing us or complementing us I can't tell.
Isaiah Stewart
yeah it is, Im actually comfy here, but if i do take the atlanta job its probably more likely with the intention to know another country than in order to get money
to be honest the real deal would be to bring back the dollars i dont expend to survive into mexico, thats the only way i see it to be profitable, that, or just take the job for 1 year to see how stuff runs around there and take another job with higher salary
Samuel Gonzalez
sorry i forgot i was in pol
Cooper Price
How many years of experience?
Where did you study?
What other languages do you know?
Gabriel Reed
Well after university I was serving in army in some (((speshul science regiment))) Literally some FSB tier dudes asked me if I want to help muh motherland, not for free. So after that I signed a contract and get access to top secret stuff (not all ofc, just in my field).
So now I'm working for 500$ month and perspective to get a free flat in property after 4 more years. And I cant leave Russia for 15 years after that, lol.
Aiden Evans
1, IPN, english, spanish php, Mysql, HTML, C, C++, C#, SQL, and a bit of java
Luke Baker
>And I cant leave Russia for 15 years after that based putin
Lincoln Anderson
How long did it took you to learn all those languages?
How did you get that position? By friends, family, contacts, school?
I'm asking because I'm a self taught programmer and I'm going to start university soon, thanks.
Owen Bailey
that's sort-of different, then. Here most of your paycheck would go to paying a mortgage anyway.
Josiah Green
Fuck, do you have some kind of special privileges, at least? Free Vodka, free whores, something like that?
Andrew Richardson
>How long did it took you to learn all those languages?
when i started my career i literally had never seen a line of code so literally 5 years, this is something you learn by practice most of the time you learn on the go, keep looking, testing, googling what you dont know, and learning good programming practices, read clean code, and clean coder books they might help out
Once you learn the hardest (in my case C) everything comes easy as fuck, as long as you know english you will start to notice how programming languages and structures are almost all the same only the syntax changes
Self taught are the best kind of programmers but as long as you start with the right language, if you start with the easy ones you will just get spoiled (C# or java)
the recruiter found me by my LinkedIn profile, from there he went into my own webpage that i have hosted in github for free, saw my projects and contacted me by phone. that's it, i didn't ask anyone anything i was told i meet the profile, i'm just starting but hey, even if the pay is low it seems worth checking out
Brandon Fisher
somehow all the people i have meet in military tech jobs (mexico, usa, canada) live in depression, or in this case starving
