They have veritable property empires, they have massive investment portfolios, they have high-power jobs, and they have huge pension funds. They are an economic powerhouse who are sitting on a truly COLOSSAL wealth of assets.
They also vote in large numbers (typically conservative), they have fairly traditional views of family, religion and society, and they are the last real hold-outs against the pervasive leftist media.

Now ask yourself - who would benefit from eliminating a group like that?
Who would dearly, desperately, urgently like to get their hands on all of that sweet, sweet wealth? Who would kill to avoid paying out those pensions? Who would like to see one of the last bastions of conservatives just removed from society? And who also conveniently just happens to control the media; the same media which created the narrative that baby boomers are evil and responsible for your poverty?

I also like how they liquidated all the public utilities their parents built through privatization on the principle it would be more efficient, but never really thought through problems like how to prevent wealth from being concentrated in a few individuals. We have neoliberalism, which theorizes if we sell off everything on the open market, because things are being run more efficiently, everybody benefits. It turns out though that only one person necessarily has to benefit from privatisation and efficiency however, and that is usually what happens. Which is of course, why the public utilities were built in the first fucking place.

Now everybody is on board with this madhouse idea that if you give everything to private owners, and then tax them, and redistribute the wealth, you get equality. Which is hilariously naive and easily circumvented through schemes like palm greasing and globalism.

Now we have a left that is not interested in equality, other than enforced via authoritarian means, that's a worse version of the right. Then the right, including Trump does shit like giving tax breaks mostly to the rich, and taking on debt, while will be repaid by the entire society.

I think the "based generation" / "greatest generation" narrative gives people too much credit, and not enough recognition toward general forces outside our control and the inherited results of historical context. Also glosses over a lot of the atrocities committed at the same time.
