It was to be expected.
ISIS as a whole is moving down south and west.
They are being pushed in the north, Raqqa and Mosul, and are making themselves breathing room in central syria.
It's also fairly clear that ISIS attacking specifically the SAA in both palmyra and deir ez zoir has political motives.
While the FSA is getting slaughtered and busy fightning among each other, ISIS wants to show the world it's still fightning the regime.
In the eyes of religious muslims + many rebels, this gives them more legitimacy, and they might defect to ISIS.
