There's a reason Marxists are a political fringe. Marxism is all about taking away the extra profit gained through owning the means of production. It will never be mainstream as long as capitalists own the media and can use it to shape mainstream opinion (which will be forever).
This is not to be confused with cultural Marxism, which values open borders and tolerant culture. Capitalists like cultural Marxism because it creates more competition for jobs and drives down wages/benefits.

A lot of these upper middle class kids who identify as socialists or Marxists are simply going through a phase while in college. They have very little experience in or knowledge of the real world. It kills me to use this term but college is meant to be a "safe" place for you to grow and learn and become acquainted with new ideas. These teenagers and 20-somethings also have usually never wanted for anything. They've never had to worry about the where the next meal is coming from. This inexperienced is cringe-worthy, but very very forgivable.

The south is just replaying the slave era over and over and over. They don't care that they are getting screwed by a system of billionaires as long as those billionaires are promising them stuff that makes them better the minorities. The north and the west are doing their shit and trying to figure out a way to unfuck stagnate wages but there really isn't a hard and fast solution. We're going to have to limit as some point how many things just one person can control because there really isn't another solution. Call it communism or whatever but all our resources will dry up or we'll all kill each other fighting once the corporations take over complete control of our lives.

Especially when college costs money in the U.S. It might seem unfair at first as to why something such as education shouldn't be tax founded (something I'm not against if a country was like Sweden 10-15 years ago) but as you grow older and actually get a job it makes sense as to why socialism and the like isn't that appealing.
