Basically the Northen states work hard af -manufacture and agriculture mostly- while the Federal District has no real job aside from governing us.
The Federal District has a lot of infrastructure projects but no real way of paying them on their own so they take from the other states, the excuse is that things like a new airport and such would benefit the entire nation as a whole, but if it does the change is so small that it is unnoticeable

I read somewhere that the only downside would be that we have to pay taxes to other states for importing their products, but meh, at this point I think that would be meaningless in the long term.
For example the goverment fucked the gas prices so bad that some northern states are thinking in importing gas from the US because that would be cheaper than buying from PEMEX. The local economy is that bad and the federal government is milking us for every for every cent, that's unacceptable.
