Probably less to do with European ancestry and more to do with a better environment than full blooded Africans. Parts of Africa have literally no schools. Black majority schools in the US are terrible, but at least they kind of function. I was forced to volunteer with Somali refugee kids for a class and many of them couldn't even divide despite being 14.

In my experience affluent whites and Asians have more of a culture of parent to child education than affluent blacks. I've read studies that show a huge discrepancy between white parents and black parents that do things like read to their children for example. I can't speak for all affluent blacks, but the one's I've met still hold on to parts of black culture, especially if they're the first generation of their family that's affluent.
Then again, I'm just talking from experience. You may be right.
This certainly plays a role but as you admit genetics also play a role. Hopefully in the future we will honestly know how much each effects people
