I teach in an American public school. We are in a unit on Genetics and I asked all sections of my 10th grade students (15-16 year old) a handful of questions about genetics as a sort of "survey" about what they knew.
One of the most incorrectly answered questions was: >How is biological sex determined?
The correct answer is "it's inherited." I even changed it from my original script, which asked "gender" over "biological sex."
In every single class, however, the vast majority of students were convinced it was "acquired" and that a person could "choose their sex." They believed that saying it was "inherited" was incorrect, and that genitals and sex chromosomes were not a determinant of biological sex. Even with a more in-depth scientific explanation, they argued that I was wrong.
I then tried to explain it to them, using the trans movement's own argument, that "gender is in your head, sex is between your legs." Some understood, but still some didn't like that answer and argued further that I was wrong.
I had to explain multiple times that every human inherits X and Y chromosomes from their parents, and that this is what determines their biological sex. "What they do with it is up to them," I added and kind of chuckled. A few kids joined in, but some students were STILL not satisfied. I tried to give examples of intersexual disorders to sort of assuage the "a woman could be born with a penis" comments I was getting, but stuck to my guns that XX = ovaries and XY = testes and as far as Biology is concerned those are the only two sexes in humans.
Most surprisingly, it was more boys than girls who complained that "this didn't add up" and "[you] mean my parents were the ones that made me a guy?! What if I chose to be something else? You're telling me I have a penis because my parents' chromosomes made it that way? What about all those people who are trans! What about gay people! This does not add up and I'm so confused!"
I even had one girl say she was offended that this was even still being debated. "Clearly this is false, Mr. user. The X and Y chromosome are just chromosomes, like anything else. They don't decide whether you're male or female. You do, in your head."
Even more surprising (or maybe expected), my Hispanic, Asian, and black students didn't question my explanation at all. They agreed that sex was inherited. It was the white kids who continued to insist that I was wrong about sex.
Then... came the memes, "what if I want to be an attack helicopter?!" "Tell everyone to get off tumblr, mister!" "Actually, there's 72 genders! I saw it on Facebook!"
I even heard a student having a side conversation with another with the most serious tone he was so convinced he was right... "There used to be two genders, but scientists have discovered a lot more over the past few years!"
Ultimately, my lesson fell on deaf ears. I tried for a few minutes longer to bring them all around, but the class had politicized my basic science lesson and wouldn't let me correct their misguided information. I had to just drop it and move on. These students will probably come around once they realize there's a test on this information (and they better), but we'll see.
>tl;dr It's ridiculous how a generation of liberal agendas and "SJW" thinking has tainted the ability of these teenagers to accept something so basic. They are so confused about the matter that they don't even want to accept or acknowledge the truth when it so plainly put forth to them.

I think it`s more a tongue issue. English is a speak with poor semantics, that has no words to describe the nature accurately, because all the words have double-points, that must be taken into consideration simultaneously.

The internet and news has told them all their lives that being a girl is just something you make up.
Trans movement is destroying education.

Suggestion, maybe teach them about treatment that only work on biologically male/female individuals.

Given how insane cultural Marxist ideology has become, I would not be surprised at all if a biology teacher was fired for teaching biology.
Jacob Rodriguez
You should inform your students that the term 'gender' belongs in French or Spanish class, not biology.
Thomas Baker
You should have told them that Male and Female are words of sex, Masculine and Feminine those of gender. Gender is the language of sex. A man can be feminine, but not female. >It was the white kids who continued to insist that I was wrong about sex. Of course it was. The white families of today don't have a strong cultural foundation to supply them with knowledge or pass down traditions. And what little they do have is often too weak to hold out for very long. A father who hasn't thought seriously about the morals he wishes to pass on to his children cannot maintain his views against the sort of stuff that's been cooked by colleges professors for decades and has made its way to websites like tumblr, which are also mainly frequented by white introverts.
The school system is supposed to supply these deficiencies, but that obviously doesn't happen where the whining parents and children can bend the rules.

Aaron Perry
Gonna have to agree with this user.
These SJWs are entitled to their opinions and beliefs, but they are going to need to accept that science does not lie, and the only reason they have these thoughts of being able to determine their sex is because of social media and MSM.
Elijah Torres
I wish I had teachers like you. Putting aside their predispositions (however correct they may be), as evidenced by you using the term "biological sex" in place of gender
And then explaining so well.

No, mathematics aside English is likely the best language for science and logic because of the sheer number of adjectives and prepositions.
English conjugates to very clearly specify the role of its parts in a sentence, you are forced to arrange it logically in order to understand it.
This is a feature best typified in English and a feature actually completely missing from many languages.
The adaptive borrowing potential of English means the dominance of English isn't going anywhere.

This sounds like an issue that could only be solved with rhetoric. You need to cite 2 or 3 authoritative-sounding authorities that define biological sex. Then explain almost mockingly that their tumblr friends and favorite lgbt blogs are in no way reputable authorities on the issue. If they haven't listened up to this point, subtley mock their intelligence. Tell them "It's part of my job to help you guys.. oops" *cover mouth sheepishly* "I mean, faggots.. It's my job to help you think critically, but I don't... think I can help you," and immediately move on. If you have however convinced them of the definition of sex, then move on to explain that while there are an infinite number of potential genders because it's all fantasy, unless it's used synonymously with "sex," "gender" doesn't really exist.
Charles Jones
Well then that needs to be corrected, doesn't it?
Levi Fisher
Simple. Look for studies in genetics that deal with the issue, and ask students to bring studies in genetics that disprove OP's """so that we can have a healthy debate""".
Chase Peterson
Better yet, make them write an essay. And they have to convince you that they know what's right or wrong.
Matthew Harris
The 'attack helicopter' meme makes me wonder if OP is larping, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I think this is being targeted at whites - minorities are getting a free pass on the propaganda because, well they're minorities, so they must already be oppressed and don't need lecturing. I do wonder though if it is 'all in the head'. Sure, chromosomes determine sex, but the mechanism is through hormones during development - both on the development of the sex organs, and the brain. If something disrupts that, not just the well known chromosomal disorders, but synthetic estrogens, or even some subtle genetic disorders or mutations we don't know about, they could get a female/gay brain, underdeveloped genitals, who knows? You ever look at someone and think they look like a fag? Not just stupid hair or mincing about, but their actual face? There was a study that found people could spot a 'gay face' better than just by chance. I still think it's a disorder, just that it has a physical basis, just like down syndrome is. Also, it is clear that there's an agenda, so that borderline and mentally ill are being encouraged to embrace it. In former times, most would have been quietly faggy and not bothered anyone.
No, he said he deliberately used 'biological sex' instead of 'gender' to describe the physical aspects. And it's not unreasonable to insist on the correct use of biological terms in a biology lesson.
Samuel Murphy
Tell them that as a little treat, the test will be only two questions. One will be how biological sex is determined, and the other can be whatever you want. Anyone who doesn't accept this will automatically fail.
Ethan Young
The next step in discussing in what causes XXY, is what way is best to euthanize those living mistakes, whether in the womb or already born.

Mate we don't even have a difference between singular and pluralised second person, most of our language is made up of vague nonsense which can be completely misinterpreted ("you people") and we split hairs so often it's results in words being muddled up losing their meaning, for example most people couldn't tell you the difference between "jealousy" and "envy".
Fucking french is better than English
>The adaptive borrowing potential of English means the dominance of English isn't going anywhere Chinese, Spanish and french are fast approaching it though. If America becomes too Hispanic English will drop away like a rock and the other three will compete, with possibly Russian and Arabic competing too.

>Simpsons Wat?
Jealousy is seeing someone have something and wanting the same, there is no malice in it. >Jim has a hot wife, I want a hot wife too! >Jim has $100 dollars, I want $100 dollar two!
Envy is wanting what that person specifically has, it has a level of malice and selfishness to it as it's a desire to direct take what they have for yourself >I want jim's hot wife (and for him to be alone >I want jim' s money (and for him to have nothing)
That's why envy is considered a Deadly Sin, on the same level as Pride, while jealously isn't.

As an educator, I thought you should know something: Though it's true that it's specifically the sperm that makes it to the egg that "predetermines" sex, all conceived start as a female.
At a certain point in development, early on, there is a surge of testosterone that hits the fetus. If that surge "doesn't take", the fetus will remain female. If it does, it will become male.
This is the current medical understanding of how we develop into what we are. This is also how various chromosomal disorders occur; when things don't fire off correctly in these critical early stages.
Teachers imparting knowledge on youngsters should be required to lift references directly from medical journals; at least the cliff notes. This would clear up a great deal of confusion in our education system, and return us to an age of actual science and discovery instead of the "feels" path we're currently on.
Joseph Ward
physics teacher here - serious question. I had this discussion with a bio teacher last week about genetics and inherited traits.
Is biological sex, properly speaking, "inherited" from the father? "Inherited" implies the parent passes the trait down to the offspring. Because the sperm determines the sex, children do not exactly "inherit" a male chromosome from the father. Any insight? My colleague had no good answer.
Also, thoughts on whether faggotry is inherited or conditioned?
I can't believe how retarded people are these days... observing bio and genetics while denying reality.
Literally ask if we can determine the sex of a cadaver. Everyone says yes of course! Well, what happens when it wakes up and says it's the opposite sex/gender? The confusion on their faces is remarkable

Just revisited my HS. over 90% white. It's a blue county, and boy does it show, but there are a lot of Trump supporters.
They voted 55% trump in a mock election.
Very strong black student union (whjch is mostly white people, there are only ~50 black kids in the school), lgbt support groups.
There is a special socratic seminar class that my brother is in (combined social studies/history with english classes, lots of public speaking, debate, etc) which has all of the students who actually care about politics. There is a small group of very very vocal libshits that most everyone hates (blm types, white virtue signallers). once they had a 1 hour virtue signalling session about their homosexual grandparents. they shout at people they disagree with until they shut up. about 1/3 of the class is silent conservatives that started their own afterschool club last year. apparently they got fed up with the libshits preventing actual discussion so they have their own study group/seminar thing after school.
My brother tells me that his seminars got cancelled for a week because of Trump. Outside of that class filled with raging libshits, nobody else in the school really cared that much, except for the conservative club who looked smug, and the chad types that laughed about it.
worst part about it is that the teachers of the class are too pussy to do anything about it and keep the class on track (which is hard to classify because it is rather freeform by nature).
the people following the millennial example are hated. it's more popular to not have an opinion at all.
John Anderson
Not sure if you're serious but an offspring's sex is determined by the X or Y chromosome the male parent produces. Not exactly sure what you're second question is but during meiosis there is chromosomal crossover of both parents.
Brayden Mitchell
This could have been an opportunity to elaborate on some finer points of sex determination. You could have gone into the syndromes or the SRY region of the Y chromosome. There are studies documenting the effects of inactivating the SRY region. You could have also injected nuance into the debate by bringing up that people can choose secondary sex characteristics but not primary sex characteristics.
I think you could have handled the situation better
Lincoln Russell
Yeah the male passes on the X or Y and the female passes on an X. When the male passes on an X, is it still considered inheriting the sex of (or from) the male? The XX is then physically expressed, but is the daughter considered to inherit the female trait from the male parent? It just seems odd that the daughter "inherits" the physical female traits from the male parent.
I may just be nitpicking the word "inherit" wrt phenotype and genotype

Meanwhile, I teach 10th graders in a Title 1 school and I have to keep students from calling people faggots, retards, and gay lords every fuckin' day. I managed to get them to calm down in one class because I have not only one but TWO FtM trans students. They're pretty chill dudes though and they don't go insane when someone misgenders them.
I guess teaching students who live in the lower 10% of household incomes has some perks.
