Ever since he's been elected we have been largely shoehorned into a loose coalition of identities that supposedly will be hurt by Trump and largely oppose him. Did you vote for Trump? Do you identify with people of color and the other groups that we are usually lumped in with? Do you feel threatened by him removing the LGBT section of the White House webpage? Do you think he will enact any anti-LGBT policies?

You're looking at a social issue. How long has it been since abortion was legalized? 30 years? 40 years? And in all that time, it's stayed legal. "Progression" as it were, is not about to turn face because a republican stepped into office.

I wasn't saying I think its likely he will do it, I just think it would curry some favor in Congress for him. I don't think he's much of a social reactionary. More I think there is the possibility that people around him are and will try to implement reactionary social policy and he will be powerless, as a Republican, to stop it unless he wants to be seen as compromised.

The left tries to use us as token victims. No reason to feel threatened. Hopefully he actually helps blue collar rural Americans.

Well I don't worry about Trump so much as the larger ramifications like what Congress and the courts will try to effect now with Trump in office. Not to mention any discriminatory state policies no longer face any federal pressure against them as in the past.

I don't identify with most of the people in my own "group." Honestly, as a gay guy who's been around LGBT people, they're some of the most judgmental and exclusionary people I've ever met.

I don't *think* he will, but he is a republican after all. But whatever he does, it can't be any worse than what all the Saudis would do to us if HillaREE won and flooded the country with them.

I agree in that whatever happened with Hillary with flooding the country with ethnic and religious minorities would not have been good long-term for gay rights so this is the smart decision for gay people, regardless of Republican stances on social issues but I still think there is a possibility of states using this as a springboard to discriminatory action.

If Obama can take unilateral action, so can Trump. I'll let you in on a little something. Being homo is very quickly becoming irrelevant. Trump has more to gain by going along with Obama's LGBT policies because if he can gain ground with that group, they'll be more likely to vote for him again in 4 years. He isn't going to start out ripping everything to pieces and making that big of a stir, it's bad business.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'll give you a short rundown of my situation.

When I met my husband we both shared similar political views. One of my fagbros introduced me to Sup Forums and I started swallowing redpills and jumped from supporting Bernie to having both feet planted firmly on the Trump train. We don't have a whole lot in common politically these days, but it doesn't get in the way of our relationship. You are not just your political beliefs. If you feel like you can engage him without him sperging out and spewing liberal feefee garbage, and actually have a discussion instead of a yelling match, then do it, but unless you talk politics 98% of your time together, it can be arbitrary if you let it be.

I know. And it's kinda hot. But there's a fragile peace in here between some major homophobes and red-pilled gays and these images probably irritate them.
Let's not lose sight of our position as a consistently small 4% of any population.

Are you aware of the number of people that ACTUALLY hate homosexuals? Congress isn't going to cater to such a small demographic. The number of people that truly hate fags is overshadowed by the number of LGBT persons in the states as we speak, and it's becoming less and less all the time. Numbers matter, and anti-LBGT doesn't have the numbers or the momentum to make those kind of changes happen.

Unfortunately I live in a liberal hell city and supporting Trump pretty much immediately ostracizes me from most of the LGBT community here. That being said, idgaf about other gays so I don't really give a shit about gay marriage, shock therapy, etc. I can easily pass as straight most of the time and I'm also chronically single so I don't really feel like there are any rights I stand to lose that will affect me much. Id rather take care of shit like employment, illegal immigration and veteran care reform anyway.

It's not about gain or loss. It's about "Well, my side believes this, so I have to believe it too." You should keep in mind that the religious motivation is one of societal and personal morality. I've been there and I understand it, I understand the annoyance of secular people having their shit restricted because of things they don't believe in, but at the same time we're not filling the gap with anything else worth holding on to. We're loosening a lot of the ethical bonds of society but not creating a whole lot of new ones, so purely conservative policy for the religious right to maintain social institutions like marriage I can understand and empathise with strongly. Kinda riding in on this user's coat tails but a lot of this. You are always going to have opposition, on any issue, and in a social issue, it's gonna ride on the feefees of either side. I don't believe there's any reason why gay folks shouldn't be allowed to marry, but the term "marriage" really gets the goat of the religious institution because it's kind of a sacred thing to them. Marriage to them shouldn't involve anything federal, just the church. They feel by you marrying someone of the same sex is stepping on their definition of marriage, like you're making it lesser because you're not following tradition, that marriage is between a man, and a woman.

What you'd essentially need to do to appease the majority of both parties would be to leave the term "marriage" to the church, and the church alone, then you'd have to make civil unions completely equal to "married status". If you are a man/woman of the church, and you desire to both be married (under the eyes of god and all that), and wish to have a civil union, you could have these things, but you have to change the minds of the nation before these things can be separated.
