This is incorrect. If you read the modal-ontological proof, it states that if all of the properties exemplified in a being "God" are consistent, then it must therefore exist.
In plain English it would be closer to: If there is a maximally perfect being to which belongs all perfect qualities, it would be made more perfect by its existence, and therefore must exist."
Of course, when I type it out like that, it sounds much less convincing. If you are into philosophy at all, it is actually a pretty sound argument. Not one I subscribe to, but it is certainly not a joke.
Jose Nguyen

I dont even doubt that existence of a God in this sense, but the fuckers just use mystizism to convince people. His "equasions" are senseless, nothing is defined...
Axiom 1. P(phi) and for all x there is a function from phi(x) to psi(x) and all of this is a function to P(psi) what is that supposed to mean? seriosly?
Godel wrote a modal-ontological proof of the existence of God. He didn't JUST do the incompleteness theorems.

I could take that to mean many things. For instance: If something works, there must be an instance in which it will not work. Seemingly reasonable, but not necessarily true.

Boy, I sure wish such proof could be found, but nothing of the sort has come forward.
Let me explain this to you: That theory is laughably bad, becuase it misrepresents the multiple-worlds argument. It states that if god exists he must exist in all worlds, when in fact if god exists in any world there must be one in which he does not, because of the mathematical principles of the theory itself.
Jordan Rodriguez

thanks man. ive lurked for years but this is the first thread ive started dude believe me i have studied the shit out of it. i'm just not convinced. btw did you see dubays history of the flat earth? it just came out this week. pretty good stuff.
You are incorrect in that it involves multiple worlds ontology. It does not. I am also not saying it is 100% valid, just that he wrote it as a proof.

In modal logic, you have possibility and necessity operators that describe states in which a given atomic proposition might hold a value of true or false. This is often interpreted as multiple worlds and accessibility relations, but at the time Godel wrote this proof, the most common interpretation of necessity and possibility referred to states separated in time, i.e., what is true today might not be true tomorrow.
Necessity and possibility do not have a fixed meaning in normal conversation--they do not strictly mean separate worlds or times--they only have significance in modal logic.

And I suppose there is a reason it is picked up by those wishing to validate their own points. It's unfounded subjectivity gives it room to accommodate all sorts of illogical theories.
