I was a dorm-mate with one.
No official diagnosis, but he obviously was far along the spectrum.
He was petty and simple-minded about being "macho", the mentality of your standard 12-year old third worlder but in the body of an 18 year old european. Talked about the music and video games he liked with people that obviously didn't care - and no self awareness apparently came parcelled with a weird tendency to forget he'd brought up a subject, so it would be heard several times before going out of circulation. Loud, no awareness, etc. Terrible personal space problems around women. Petty and entitled, didn't realise the sort of effort people were putting in to try and accommodate him.
That said, this particular guy had politeness obviously driven into him by a parent or teacher, so never neglected please, thank you, etc.
Not overly unpredictable, once you learn the particular way they tick then you can handle them quite easily. Autistic people are often terrible liars, so they're quite honest. They also tend not to notice if you're being a moron yourself, so you can worry less about keeping up appearances if you're hanging around them, just don't tell them any interesting secrets. Can be more fun to be around then normies if you just let their weirdness wash over you.
Annoying as fuck but I think most people had an affection of sorts, had plenty of people willing to include him in stuff, look out for him. Something about the behaviour of people like him fired up a sort of "be wary of the child" mentality.
I also learnt directly that whilst he was inept in real life, any time he communicated online or in text in general he sounded completely normal and indistinguishable from anyone else. A very useful lesson to learn, especially when talking to people here (wew).
