I'm so happy by this if true. Why should a private citizen release all his private information (tax returns have a shitload of private info) because they want to make the country better via public service? It goes completely against the founders' intentions, and discourages regular folk from running for office.

I honestly think this has to do more with him being a twice divorced billionaire with a large family, than any conflicts of interest.

If his tax returns went public it would cause a media shitstorm about how much he pays his exes etc. and cause him family problems.

I think there were (I don't know how credible) rumours that he was gonna release them as a final surprise to show he was charitable and paid much more than Clinton - but then Comey reopened the investigation and obviously they were never gonna distract from that, even if the rumours were true.

Because, unlike tax returns, academic transcripts wouldn't show any blatant conflict of interests. Tax returns are the only way Trump can prove he isn't violating clauses in the constitution prohibiting the president from recieving money from foreign govt's. which is probably why he isn't releasing them. That and the embarrassment of admitting he's not as rich as he claims.
