Born and raised in SF so I love it, we have a big homeless problem right now that is a result of decades of shitty federal legislation and a pants on head retarded mental health system, combine that with the good climate and techie fuckbois and its a homeless haven.
It is pretty liberal but its beauty is truly unmatched and its location is awesome, I can go do so many different things in so many different environments. We also have the nicest food, some of the most modern tech and architecture, the silicon valley fuck you money, a very sexually active night life and soon plenty of places to smoke weed. Twenty years ago, Portland was awesome. Leftie, like most cities, but blue collar, old school, and genuinely quirky--not just hipster attitude.
It's lost most of its charm. There is still a lot of good food but everything is horribly overpriced so only the type As with attitude who like to fake being cool and interesting are left. And junkies. And angry radicals who thought it would be cool to live there. Oh well. It's still nicer than a lot of big cities, but the homeless/drug problems are huge and the liberal government is of course doing nothing.
Their police are really messed up, too. In all sorts of ways. It's almost as bad as being a cop in SF.
