"Trump will protect the interne-"

>"Trump will protect the interne-"
Welp guess not!

neutrality was doomed under either candidate

Not an argument

I don't understand net nuetrality can I get a redpill?

executive branch cant change the law congress passed

Net neutrality is fucking gay. Internet communism literally. Muh geocities page should load with the same priority as netflix

What retard thought Trump was going to protect net neutrality? He was pretty explicitly against it whenever it came up.

You're the one who started a shitty thread on a false pretense

Who pays for the Internet today?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Trump simply isn't well versed on this issue. We need to tell him we need net neutrality.

Its a good thing....

Obama made him in charge since 2012. Are these niggers retarded? Trump reinstated someone Obama picked.

Says comcast cant throttle netflix and they have to let you know that they sell your data and to who if you ask. Now you get the option to pay for them to not sell your data. Its a fucking joke

T. code monkey

Actually, it is.

Since its doom was inevitable, we turned to other reasons to vote for a candidate.

Essentially, it gives internet providers the ability to charge you for bandwidth to certain websites, or block you from certain websites all together.

Realistically, it's probably not going to change anything. They can already throttle your internet, and they don't do it now.

No

more of a lamentation really. I'll miss the internet too.

Meh, Net Neutrality was already kilt. These headlines act as if it was ever a law or implemented policy. It never happened in the first place, thankfully.

I can't wait until ISPs throttle down Sup Forums to dialup speeds and give CNN super fast speed.

kys sjw scum

The long and short of it is that ISPs cannot give preferential treatment to a given client, say Netflix or Google, by allocating more or less bandwidth for certain sites

The argument is that cable providers paid for the cable and towers and accessories to provide access, but the government wants to make them a neutral, public commodity

No, Tom fucking Wheeler was in charge.

Satellite internet, nigga

Sup Forums is pretty lean as far as data constraints go

honestly the internet is shit now that women and poo babies use it

we full /corporatocracy/ now

Why shouldn't an ISP be allowed to give priority to certain packets?

For example, packets for a VoIP service that they offer to customers. It's their network that they built, Skype or other companies should not get prioritization if they didn't sink billions into the infrastructure carrying the traffic.

As long as service providers are not *intentionally degrading* the service of competitors, I don't see the big deal. If they prioritize their traffic, and then everyone else's gets sent best effort (if there's no congestion on the network, it gets there just as far; if there is congestion, then best effort packets are going to be delayed or dropped).

Oh yeah great alternative. 600 ping and outages when it rains.

Nah, that's what they told you it was. It would take you month to read the proposal. It essentially gives the government control of the internet. They can even block sites they don't like.

It seems like it could be beneficial to some though. Instead of paying for unlimited access, you could choose a plan that doesn't pay for netflix if you don't use netflix. It would actually make it cheaper for those who don't stream movies.

However, those who do stream would be the ones to see a price increase.

Essentially, the way it is now is Obamacare for your internet. When Obamacare passed, men and women were charged the same amount for the same age/risk factors, when previously women paid a lot more than man for health insurance,

Isn't removing net neutrality the same as enforcing censorship? It means ISPs can decide what the consumer is allowed to watch, which is the exact opposite of free enterprise.

Did we get jewed guys? Is Trump one of ((them))?

Aka the company owns it's own property. Wow crazy!!!

What's that goy? You want to use Netflix when you have a perfectly good AT&T TV service we forced you to get? Better pay an extra $10 month for the Netflix fast lane, Netflix has to pay us as well

Sounds like a great way for an ISP to lose customers to one of their competitors.

No you fucking mong

It's unlikely that they would prevent you from going to certain sites, unless those sites required a lot of bandwidth. Plus, a lot of areas have multiple providers. Blocking certain websites for shits and giggles would scare their customers away.

If they did not have a monopoly then they should have that right. But as a monopoly ( which the cable companies are in all but the largest markets ) they must be regulated as a utility.

>I don't understand net nuetrality can I get a redpill?

nigger 1 has money he get faster internet
nigger 2 has no money he gets slower internet

seems fair to me.

This. Trump literally gave away our most precious information tech to corporate special interests.

Nah, it seems like their strategy is to simply create data caps, but not have data from their services count towards your cap. Then services can enter contracts with ISPs to have their service not count toward the cap too.

It's Jewish as fuck, and I'm against it. But some fuckery with my netflix connection is definitely worth the salt from the left alone.

Implying there are competitors it's a fucking monopoly.

It kinda is though.

It means ISPs can block certain websites, right?

That's the exact definition of censorship

Uh, no, that's what we have right now.

In many parts of the US there is no competition or choice in your ISP, some actually planned out which streets everyone would get so they don't compete

In addition they try their hardest to pass laws preventing citizens from rolling out their own fiber infrastructure

ISPs are the worst companies around today

Worth pointing out too is that services like T-Mobile's data free music and video streaming, which most people would consider good for consumers and competition, is technically a violation of net neutrality.

Government just needs to keep their grubby little hands off the internet.

Actually Comcast was throttling in California and got slapped with a class action lawsuit. They aren't doing that anymore.

What's that? Want to game? Better buy a Gaming Plan or no games for you goy. Oh, want to stream? Better get a Streaming plan. They're only $20 a month. Oh, you want to look up a competitor's offers? Too bad, we blocked their pages. You don't need to know such things. Buy like good goy.

There are no competitors, since they own the lines leading to your house. You buy from them or you get a phone with a few gigs monthly at much higher rates.

>thinks he gets a choice of ISPs
Enjoy moving away from your city just so you don't have to deal with Comcast as they finish eating up every other company

Version already throttled Netflix traffic if I remember right or maybe it was comcast

Exactly. In theory they would have to compete but they don't.

Meh, I cared about Net Neutrality back before Google and Facebook made it clear that censorship was ok when they did it.

>burgers live in a country with internet monopolies and won't be guaranteed their e-freedom by their government

This is the only thing Canada does better than its pants.

Netflix should lats it's own wire if they aren't happy with how they are threated after their service consumes 35% of all fucking internet traffic in various ISPs, crushing their equipment all day forcing them to buy more.

That's not how it works. They generally throttle a protocol such as bittorrent. Since this resulted in class action lawsuits, they stopped. Net neutrality meme has nothing to do with it.

lol you dont understand how the world, much less ISP's, work.

say goodbye to Sup Forums and exhentai faggots, this was coming either way.

What competitors?

Social media was a bad idea. Putting normies on the internet was wrong.

Good. Hopefully we will get rid of the stupid zoning shit too.

the principle that Internet service providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular products or websites.

How/why is this bad?

my city only has one ISP for a reason

because they own the lines and its too expensive to set up new ones for a new company\

No it wasn't Hillary was a strong supporter of Net Neutrality.

They can, yes, do they do it? Idk can you even think of an example? The problem was they throttled bandwidth. Also obama gave icann to europe, icann can block websites, and the nigger gives it away to europe. No one talked about it.

GOODBYE Sup Forums
GOODBYE ANIME SUBS
GOODBYE QUALITY ONLINE VIDEOGAME MULTIPLAYER
HELLO NETFLIX COMCAST EDITION
HELLO FACEBOOK FIOS EDITION

#NotMyPresident

Honestly, we weren't doing anything userful with it anyway.

POO

His name is pajeet anagram, were fucked.

The internet is not a utility, get bent statist

Trump is about as tech savvy as the average 70 year old grandpa, and Republicans have been bullshitting about Net Neutrality being Communism for years now. Put the two together and you get the expected result.

That's some bullshit

Cable
DSL (the ILEC that owns the infrastructure, as well as 3rd party CLECs who lease the lines to provide service on)
FTTH if you're lucky (FiOS, Google Fiber, etc.)
Cellular (multiple providers)
Satellite (multiple providers)
Smaller local LoS providers
etc.

There are quite a few options out there. I won't claim they're all as good, but if you really want to stick it to your current provider, there are plenty to switch to.

>implying Sup Forums ever supported net neutrality

good. the internet is a cesspit of the worst kind of people ever. I say only information stays, while discussions, porn, and entertainment leave

>Throttling Sup Forums
>a text and image board that uses no bandwidth
I know you are trolling but most people in this thread dont undertand this issue at all. It's about them trying to save money not shill and censor things. If everyone hung out on image boards using no data comcast would be very happy with that.

Fuck quoted the wrong post

lol you are stupid enough to believe this horseshit huh? keep thinking super-rich people care about money lol

Yeah I remember how successful SOPA/PIPA was too.

And here we were thinking Trump was going to be the saviour of the white race.

Instead we're moving towards towards totalitarian censorship vis a vis communist china.

Say goodbye to Sup Forums. Do you honestly think Trump is going to tolerate freedom of speech when he has full control over the internet? LOL we did it guys, we fell for the jewish tricks AGAIN

round of applause

nigger 3 (You) pays for access but gets different speeds based on if the individual website has paid their extortion fees to big telecom

Where is that proposal?

You DUMB FUCKS!

Net Neutrality isn't actually neutral - it gives all the power to search engines like Google. And it's not about BANNING websites, just not giving priority to all of them in terms of loading website speed.

The website that was most affected by lack of Net Neutrality was the big ones like Netflix, Facebook, and Google. They just don't want to have to pay for their own infrastructure - they want to make the cable lines a "public good" but still enforce their bullshit "private censorship."

>One cable provider (cable monopoly)
>One DSL provider (dsl monopoly)
>Datacapped Cell Plan (shit)

That was before the public wised up this shit. They've straight up admitted that's their plan of attack now.

YES GOY! THE RICH ARE ALL OUT TO GET YOU! ALL THEY WANT TO DO IS MAKE YOUR LIFE MISERABLE!

RISE UP GOY!

Kid i have a compsci degree and work full time as a software engineer and you are a jobless NEET. Bandwidth costs money, that's all it ever was over, not censoring Sup Forums because it's le edgy you fucking aspie

>it seems like their strategy is to simply create data caps, but not have data from their services count towards your cap

Get ready to deal with the new 2 Go per month data cap.

/gif/, /f/ any webms, will be throttled like hell. There is also the possibility for the net to be fragmented because there is no guarantee that a FIOS cable will connect you to a comcast server free of charge, especially for "low bandwidth" sites that aren't making you much revenue to connect customers to. Theres no guarantee for anyone to be able to get to connect to Sup Forums unless they have a server/mirror on their provider's cable lines.

>ability to charge you for bandwidth to certain websites, or block you from certain websites
This shit is already outdated too. ATT Timewarner/Spectrum and other providers are changing their entire grid to fiber optic so it would take an entire neighborhood running torrents to bog it down. Plus we are not that far from laser relays for communications.

Getting rid of net neutrality will allow a fast lane for internet services like nvidia's GeFroce Now.

Yeah just go down to the ole mom and pop internet store and get yourself a bag of internet. No need to go to those pesky liberal megamarts.

how does it cost money to provide bandwidth? Is there an army of slaves shoveling coal into giant furnaces for every netflix movie streamed? Get the fuck out of here.

it was the companies like google and FB who were going to create a great firewall with net neutrality. If Trump didn't get in there would have been hate speech and cyber bullying laws put in place using regulatory power granted to FCC and Sup Forums would be shut down. They went ahead with what they could do on the business side such as censoring "fake" news and FB posts

getting rid of net neutrality will mean that, no matter what your cable internet speed is, steam will download games at a much faster speed because steam will make a deal with the isp.

Where do you live that you only have one cellular provider?

Pretty much all except Verizon offer unlimited data plans now.

Satellite has shit latency, but usually have a period during the middle of the night (12PM-6AM, something like that) where you can schedule torrents or other downloads and won't count toward your data limit.

Or if you are that dissatisfied with your cable and DSL providers and refuse to use any of the other options available, go to a damn city council meeting and lobby for municipal fiber or something.

It's a principle. That's it. An idealistic principle that says all data on the internet has to be treated equally.

Net Neutrality isn't a law. It isn't some protection. It's just a belief, or a movement, that people want you to support.

Your support will result in people pushing congress to make and pass laws that place heavy regulations on ISPs, bordering or even nationalizing them.

The reasoning for this is that in the future, ISPs will become super evil and greedy and if we wait until they become super evil and greedy, it'll be too late and the internet will be doomed.
It's literally all fearmongering.

>I HAB DEGREE FROM A (((UNIVERSITY))) I KNOW WAY MORE ABOUT THE WORLD THAN U KIDDO

you dont belong here. reddit will have a lot more respect for a useless faggot like you.

ick, dont try to use Sup Forums memes you arent doing it right. its not about making people miserable you creepy little faggot, its about making people weak. and looking at the posters im responding to, they are succeeding.

>how does it cost money to provide bandwidth?

Just stop posting.

Or they agree to partner with certain ISPs while leaving out others and end up creating an environment with even less ISP competition than there already is because people will go to the ISP which has all the stuff they want to access. Meaning hicks with satellite internet are fucked and have to turn to the oligarchy conglomerates currently in control of the underground lines.

>rough numbers on 4chans upload limits
>gif
>3mb max
>flash 10mb max
>.webm 5mb max
>netflix streaming 4k
>2-3 gb an hour
Yeah try consuming 2 gb of data from Sup Forums in an hour lol you cant fucking do it. It's litteraly not possible. I go on Sup Forums a lot on my phone i can do maybe a gig in a few weeks. I browse Sup Forums on my phone every day at work and here is a month of data. Its nothing

Providers never have to upgrade their infrastructure to meet capacity demands? Guess companies like Verizon are just wasting that $20 billion in capital investment they spend every year on their cellular network.

It's not like data centers, cell sites, etc. don't use electricity and cost money to operate either. Although you're right the cost doesn't go up much just by passing extra bits through the network (maybe a modest increase in power usage, failure rates of equipment due to it running harder and hotter, etc.). But as mentioned the main cost is infrastructure investment needed to make sure capacity stays ahead of user demand.

Before corporations became poz'd as fuck, I could see the benefit in keeping the ISPs away from government influence. But now they're all in the same prog degeneracy all the way to the top anyway.

Nothing suggests Comcast won't throttle out "dangerous" websites that offend their customers. In fact, we're a lot more likely to get protection for dissenting views under idealistic legislation.

The right needs to start getting undercover Chads to enrich wealthy lib girls or create a deep state within the intelligence community over the next eight years. Otherwise, we're looking at getting shut down by either party eventually.

Yeah, like that time all the cellphone companies decided to do away with unlimited data plans and everyone just switched to their competitors.
